Is McCain Trying To Provoke Obama With All Of These False Claims He's Making.......
first the sex education for kindergarners and now saying that Obama was in the thick of the shenannigans on Wall St/K Street. Is he trying to get Obama to lose his cool? It won't work.

1. Campaign Theory 101
Edited on Fri Sep-19-08 05:03 PM by IanDB1
1) Lying about your opponent is a sign of desperation.
2) Complaining about your opponent's lies is a sign of weakness.

I think the McCain strategy is to make the lies and take the hits and hope that Obama looks weaker for complaining about it.

I don't know if the truism McCain is operating on still holds true in the Internet Age, though.

2. Perhaps So
White men can lose their tempers and it is no big deal. But if Obama gets a little hot under the collar, all of a sudden he will be an angry black man.

3. There are no policies in his campaign, so he has to attack Obama.
Some people will believe anything, and McCain is after them IMHO.

4. No. He is trying TO WIN. Smears work on the "undecided" "un-informed" "unwilling t ocheck it out"
masses of voters.

5. I read last week some time that the campaign
is just trying to keep him in the news. That he seemed to disappear until he made some gaffe and then it it's all over the news. He also said, as we all know here by now, that "this campaign will be about personalities."

If so, if making outrageous and false claims, if flip-flopping on issues, and if continually making outright mistakes on things like leaders' names and the borders of countries will keep him in the news, I can't see how that's going to make him WIN. Does making a complete and utter ass of oneself guarantee a win?

I can't believe that the McCain campaign is run by actual adults.

who travels with the McCain camp said essentially the same thing...

they will say or do anything to stay in the news...
they don't care if it's the truth or not...
She said the camp was running on anger now.

....it's sounding pretty desperate to me

6. No, Obama is poking a stick at McShame
He's pushing McCain's buttons. Obama didn't mention McCain's name in the press conference, but at the end he said something to the effect of, "The people and causes of this will be found and held accountable."

Then at the Florida rally he said McCain was in a panic and saying and doing anything to win.

8. Rove also tries to drag him into a web.
He wanted Obama to attack Palin and make the race about Palin, but Obama doesn't play that game.

9. Yep! He's trying to push Obama's buttons and make him get angry so that he can turn around
and go, "see, I told you that he is an angry black man!" What's Obama's greatest strength? Remaining cool under pressure. If McSame continues on with these nasty, vicious lies, maybe he can get Obama to blow up.

Also, remember how it is actually McSame who has the bad temper? If he had project onto Obama what is his own shortcoming--an ill temper--then maybe he can turn the tables and turn Obama into the angry black man.

He ain't slick!!

11. I think what Obama and Biden are doing is perfect.
They are taking what McCain/Palin say, bring them up in their own speeches, laugh at those statements, and point out how silly and out of touch it makes McCain and Palin seem.

That's the proper way to handle it.

13. As an angry white woman I would say yes that is what he is trying to accomplish, Kudos to Obama
for remaining above the fray. I wish I could vote for him as I have no Candidate that I want in our election this year.

He's been on fire this week, using that most potent of rhetorical weapons, humor, to deflect McCain's attacks.
