Yesterday, I had two interesting encounters with voters. The first was my mother's doctor. She brought up poltics with him, which made me cringe, because I always assume doctors are going to be Republican. But in his case I wasn't so sure, because he is Jewish and originally from NYC. But sure enough he started in on Obama being a mere "community organizer," and Biden being "crazy." It ended with him saying: "Oh, I don't really care anyway, because I'm going to retire in two years and move to Thailand." I was really diappointed, because he is a smart, cool guy generally. It's not a financial thing, because he works for an HMO, and can't be making enough for Obama's tax plan to hurt him. I think doctors just get sucked into that whole doctor world of conservatism, and it corrupts them, no matter what their natural leanings are. I remember years ago, I was working as a surgery orderly, and one of the residents was given a stern talking-to because he fraternized with we underlings too much.
The second was with a woman at my gym, who was a big Hillary suporter, and still not too happy about Obama not choosing her for his running mate. But she was going on and on about how much she despises Palin: "Can you imagine having to listen to that nasal bitch for years?!" So she is definitely in Obama's camp, if only out of loathing for Palin. So much for Palin helping McCain with women!

is a Republican, but supported Kucinich for his health care plan. She's sick and tired of having insurance companies telling her what she can and cannot do with a patient.

3. As a Canadian reporter put it, only women are capable of bitter and delicate hatred for other women |

She's right that sometimes, the ones who are most vicious about taking down women are other women, which can be a good or bad thing, depending on the situation. In this situation, it's good because Palin is obviously where she is for being younger, perkier and dumber. The chauvinistic atmosphere that John McCain obviously comes from is something that needs to be discouraged and made extinct even if you have to do it by having people vote out of disgust for him rather than out of admiration for Obama.
