BOMBSHELL: Rick Davis paid big dollars to lobby for Fannie and Freddie against fed regulation.
McCain campaign manager Rick Davis paid several hundred thousand dollars to lobby for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac against federal regulation

Politico:

To The Editor:

Yesterday, Senator John McCain released a television commercial attacking Barack Obama for allegedly receiving advice on the economy from former Fannie Mae CEO Franklin Raines. From the stump, he has recently tried tying Senator Obama to Fannie Mae, as if there is some guilt in the association with Fannie Mae's former executives.

It is an interesting card for Senator McCain to play, given that his campaign manager, Rick Davis, was paid by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac several hundred thousand dollars early in this decade to head up an organization to lobby in their behalf called The Homeownership Alliance. ...

I worked in government relations for Fannie Mae for more than 20 years, leading the group for most of those years. When I see photographs of Sen. McCain's staff, it looks to me like the team of lobbyists who used to report to me. Senator McCain's attack on Senator Obama is a cheap shot, and hypocritical.

Sincerely,

William Maloni
Fannie Mae Senior Vice President for Government and Industry Relations (1983-2004)

What did Rick Davis know and when did he know it? Actually, we already know. Joe just found this little bombshell from earlier this year. Wasn't so relevant in February when it was written. It is now. McCain's campaign manager's previous job was ensuring that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac didn't get regulated by the feds:

Davis, was president of the Homeownership Alliance, a Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac-led advocacy group which has tried to fend off regulation sought by large private banks and mortgage lenders.

The front story of the Homeownership Alliance is that it sought to make home ownership affordable to the broadest possible range of people and feared that that this mission would be compromised if Congress stepped in with too many rules.

The back story, according to critics, is that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac feared that Congressional meddling would lower their healthy profits.

They need the money up there. Need to take a lot of food too, as thats where the last vestiges of the "Good" people will be when the rapture comes, and it is coming soon. That preacher up there is the real deal, after he chased the witch out of town that had been casting spells that we causing car wrecks, down there in Kenya, Donica know. Also how dare you put down the man who put hands on SP so she would win the Governors job. You are a bunch of anti-feminists and anti-religion commies. SNL could not make this stuff up, also the pot smoking, parting hockey dad to first daughter, I guess the poor kids name will be puck or maybe broken nose. Maybe they will send him off to Iraq soon if he doe's not wise up. If I was him, I would be running south so fast I would leave a smoking , melted trail behind me. At 18 he has a small chance to grow up to be a sane, productive part of society, but if he stays there,he is trapped in that disgustingly family for good. He should start hollering "don't taze me bro" now , get a jump on the pain.

Or maybe a bad reality show, called "Dysfunctional Family Champions" or something.

is McCain cries and whines like a baby, blaming Obama for this mess (OMG, seriously- what a lying sack of shite), and then comes out with Obama knew someone who worked there ten years ago....OK.

So what? The issue isn't about BLAME, you 2 year old crybaby, it's about solutions. You clearly intend to continue being influenced by the very people who got us into this mess; McCain exists to serve lobbyists. He has made that clear. Gramm will be his treasury.

That is the ISSUE. He knew about it, he aided and abetted it, he signed on to it, it was his slogan (dereg) and he continues to align himself with special interests and lobbyists. they are, in fact, running his campaign.

That's one big glass house you just threw a stone from, McCain.

36. Actually, McCain's attack on Obama re ties to F.M. and F.M.
under these circumstances is to be expected. It's got Rove written all over it.

Rule 1) Attack the opponent where he/she is strongest. I would elaborate. We all know this one.

Rule 2) Accuse the opponent of doing the bad stuff that, in fact, you are most guilty of. That disables criticism about the bad stuff. The candidate that attacks first on an issue generally owns the issue. The candidate who attacks last looks like a whiner -- like he/she is saying "You too, so it's not so bad." So, here, Obama should have attacked McCain on his ties to F.M. and F.M. lobbyists and executives long ago. Big mistake trying to be Mr. Nice Guy.

Two examples of Rule 2:
McCain who has umpteen houses, is filthy rich and hangs out with celebrities all the time accuses Obama of being an elitist celebrity.

And now, McCain accusing Obama of having a close tie to a past executive of F.M. ad F.M.

50. I totally agrree
I knew this when I heard it--- of course, McCain is so much more intertwined with the FM FM lobbyists than Obama. He's got Davis, Gramm and who is the other guy on the head of his campaign? The architects of this failed approach are running him. I wish people would pay attention.

I had a depressing night; I actually ran into someone who told me she was voting for McCain because he stood for "New Republicans". WTF? I asked her what that was....because he's really old, surrounded by all the same old people, and furthermore, his tax plan SUCKS for us little guys. She just shook her head and said the Republicans weren't to blame for all of this mess.

How uninformed and misinformed is it possible to be???

Hell, McCain's people are so very deeply entrenched in so many bloody messes it's no wonder they've embraced 'scandal-a-day' Palin. In her own right, she's one of them.

Meanwhile, McCain's electrical wiring is fizzling at an increasingly rapid pace. He's ripe for the pickings.

Corrupt lobbyists, and the corrupt Palin's (I include Todd in here, too) will be running the show if they succeed in stealing this election. We will all be in a lot of danger if that happens.

Look at some of the most hated groups that make up HomeOwners Alliance! Even Jimmy Carter's Habitat is with them.

Habitat Joins Homeownership Alliance
WASHINGTON (Inman News Features) - Homeownership Alliance, a coalition of more than a dozen organizations, announced today that Habitat for Humanity has joined the group.

Habitat since 1976 has built more than 115,000 houses in more than 80 countries, including some 42,000 homes across the United States. The homes are sold to partner families with no-profit, zero-interest mortgages.

"We look forward to a productive partnership with Habitat for Humanity that will help strengthen the role of housing in the economy, remove barriers to homeownership and close the gap in minority and female head-of-household homeownership," said Alliance Chairman Bob Mitchell.

The group?s other members include the Consumer Federation of America, the Council of Insurance Agents and Brokers, the Enterprise Foundation, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Independent Community Bankers of America, Independent Insurance Agents of America, Local Initiatives Support Corp., National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals, National Association of Home Builders, National Association of Real Estate Brokers, World Floor Covering Association, National Bankers Association, National Council of La Raza and National Urban League.

In addition, McCain's many gaffes for the week...too many to enumerate.

And, Troopergate still very much alive. Palin as Cheney, etc., etc.

If a large percentage of voters were to have watched this show it should have been worth at least two points for Obama in the polls. Add another point for Olbermann's show. Both shows were must sees. If you've missed either be sure to catch them when their available on YouTube.

It was a disastrous week for McCain.

Considering the incredible width and breadth of involvement of TOP officials of the McCain campaign in scandal after scandal, I find the level of support for McCain unfathomable. Yet somehow the McCain campaign continues to have success at deflecting blame onto their opponents.

The facts speak for themselves. When will the rest of America wake up and recognize the truth? If this madman and his terminally incompetent sidekick get into office they will usher in four more years of the same failed policies, the same rampant corruption, the same economic failures, and the same foreign policy disasters that the Bush/Cheney regime has made the hallmark of their administration.

After the past two elections I have little faith in the American people or the American electoral system. I sincerely hope I'm surprised on November fourth but I'm afraid to allow myself to be too optimistic yet. If the MSM would just report the facts without bias McCain wouldn't have an ice cube's chance in hell of winning this election. The facts against McCain/Palin are just that damning.

Wake up America. Look at the facts. Please don't repeat the same mistakes a third time.

Yes, "lobbyist John McCain" is factual.
McCain was the lobbyist for the U.S. Navy, a job suited to his family connections.
He became a Congressman after he married money and his father-in-law bought him a house in an AZ district so he could run for Congress there.

every single complaint the Republicans have had against Democrats in the past decade is a monumental case of projection?

Neocons' brand of Communism, and the cost to the general public, the vast majority, feeding on scraps on the outside.

It's as if the Soviet Comintern had decided to reduce the scope of Soviet-citizen citizenship to its own number, returning the rest of the people to serfdom; or dispensing with the middle-man all together and putting as many as possible in the Gulag Archipelago, now bigger in the US than it had been under Stalin.

75. Does Carlyle Group have anything to do with this disaster??
Bush Sr. one of the partners in Carlyle Group has been buying
into the Global financial institutions very heavy in Bush
Jr.'s administration.

n March 2008, "Carlyle Capital, an affiliate of the
private equity firm the Carlyle Group, said that its
negotiations with lenders had broken down and that it was in
default on $16.6 billion in loans. Carlyle had borrowed the
money to buy mortgage securities backed by Fannie Mae and
Freddie Mac. All appeared well until the prices of those bonds
declined and the lenders made a margin call — a demand that
Carlyle put up more collateral to cover the loans." [1]

Carlyle Group Announces Frank D. Yeary to Join Firm as

The venture capital unit of ICICI Bank, the second-largest
Indian lender, plans to raise at least $750 million for the
country's biggest buyout fund to purchase stakes in domestic
companies.

That has drawn buyout firms like Caryle Group and Warburg
Pincus to India. Warburg Pincus has invested about $1 billion
of equity in Indian companies and made more than three times
its $300 million investment in Bharti Tele-Ventures, the
co-president, Charles Kaye, said this week. Bharti
Tele-Ventures is the nation's second-largest cellphone
services provider.

Group -- Saudi -- Arabia -- Bin Laden

Are you the sort of person who believes in
"conspiracies--the Trilateral Commission secretly runs
the world," that sort of thing? Well, then, here's a
company for you. The Carlyle Group, a Washington, D.C., buyout
firm, is one of the nation's largest defense contractors. It
has billions of dollars at its disposal and employs a few
important people. Maybe you've heard of them: former Secretary
of State Jim Baker, former Secretary of Defense Frank
Carlucci, and former White House budget director Dick Darman.
Wait, we're just getting warmed up. William Kennard, who
recently headed the FCC, and Arthur Levitt, who just left the
SEC, also work for Carlyle. As do former British Prime
Minister John Major and former Philippines President Fidel
Ramos. Let's see, are we forgetting anyone? Oh, right, former
President George Herbert Walker Bush is on the payroll too.

The firm also has about a dozen investors from Saudi Arabia,
including, until recently, the bin Laden family. Yes, those
bin Ladens. Is it any wonder that Internet sites with names
like paranoiamagazine.com are rife with stories about
Carlyle's shadowy, corrupt global network? And it's not just
wackos. "Be careful," a tech entrepreneur in Silicon
Valley wrote in an e-mail when he learned I was doing a story
on Carlyle. "The rabbit hole runs really deep on this
one.''

76. A good rule of thumb to follow with the Repukes
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 06:15 PM by truedelphi
When they say something is up, they mean down.

When they say So and So is responsible for the bad situation, they are.

It is manifold lying, and basic psychological "projecting"

And on some voters it works.

It is also how power plays inside corporate America work. The accountant doing the embezzling sets off rumors, escalates the nasty gossip, and finally has the embezzling revealed as that other person's fault. Then that accountant hires another person, waits a while, starts the new set of rumors, and then the new counts of embezzlement are that new person's fault.
