McCain campaign rejects Fox "cease and desist" request
McCain camp rebuffs Fox request

John McCain's campaign is rejecting a demand from Fox News that they remove the voice of correspondent Major Garrett fro a new web video.

In the video, called "Nothing New," Garrett notes Obama's refusal to take a stance on the bailout of insurance giant AIG.

An attorney for Fox wrote in a cease-and-desist letter to McCain's campaign, obtained by my colleague Michael Calderone, that such usage was unacceptable.

2. Man I think that is a mistake
All it takes is Ailes or Murdoch to walk in the newsroom and say "We need to unleash on McCain today" and they are f-ing toast. Seems nuts to me. I would think no one, especially the right, says no to Rupert.

3. Fox took the ad off of Youtube
The upshot of the back-and-forth is that it ensures more people will likely see a video which the campaign launched on a busy, news-filled day and isn't spending money on to broadcast on TV. If, that is, McCain's campaign can get it back up on YouTube. The old link is now dead due to "a copyright claim by Fox News Network LLC."

8. Murdock is the last man in the world McCain can afford to piss off
The rest of the media at least tries to be "unbiased" so they won't totally unload on McCain no matter what he does. Fox News OTOH has no standards to uphold.

If Fox actually turns on McCain, he is beyond screwed. He'll lose everyone but the Freepers who think Fox is too left wing. :eyes:

13. If McSame irritates Fox so much,
maybe Fox will have to "reluctantly" endorse Obama. Like The Sun did with Blair in 1997.

Murdoch can and will turn if it suits him.

Mark.

19. They can't exactly make the "fair and balanced" claim -
if one of their own is heard in an ad for a presidential candidate.

20. Silly me..I thought it was so obvious
they didn't give a crap anymore..but, I see your point. This could be a major unraveling of credibilty.

The whole corporatemedia is our number one enemy and there has to be a way to get back to real news on the airwaves.
