As much as I hate to do it - this is too interesting
I am creating a Palin thread (I am sorry), but these cancellations are growing...

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/9/19/164743/729/85/604015

Today comes word of... a rash of cancellations of Palin events. Has the Barracuda been gaffed? Or is it more gaffes they fear? Or maybe they've just realized they can't fill a venue without the Wasilla Cannonball on the card?

Either way, suddenly Sarah's ducking more events than Todd's ducking subpoenas. In swing and non-swing states alike. What's going on?

Two cancellations in Florida.

Two in California.

Two in Washington state.

At least one in Colorado.

And one in Wyoming.

Poor John McCain. It's just never gonna be his time. First he had his throat cut by George W. Bush in South Carolina in 2000, and now he's being knifed in the back by his own running mate in 2008.

21. That's very interesting...
I read something earlier today that seemed to indicate she really isn't a terribly hard worker, shall we say... had bored with the specifics and mechanics of the office of governor and basically checked out. You just can't do that with a campaign- it's all go! I know I don't have the stamina for it... wondering if she is getting exhausted... Plus all of the negative press has got to be affecting her. She gives me the impression of someone who has gotten through life on her charm and smarm, and hasn't been called on a whole lot. Well, she's getting called now, and I bet it is an awakening:D

... trying to stuff years worth of learning into her head. The mental exhaustion has to take a toll.

Conclusion: Keep her hidden.

13. Big gambles on
national ads, low exposure and surviving Hurricane Biden. This means their srtrategy is limited to guarding the false first impressions only and letting her loyal pundits carry the unbelieveable burden alone.

That also means they must now take more, different big risks while fumbling through enormous real world crises. If the various parties(Bush/Cheney gang, political organizers, fat cats, McCain and Palin) don't start planning for actual defeat(you can guess the signs, blame shifting being a big one) then things promise to get very scary very fast.

26. Which means the Dems and media need to turn the heat up again ...
... on her being protected from the vetting that all the other candidates have undergone for nearly 2 years. "The public has a right to learn more about her knowledge before making their decision on Nov. 4th."

8. Two reasons. 1) When Palin's alone, she gets bigger crowds. 2) She goes off script when alone.
They've got a big problem.

11. "SHE" is not cancelling anything
"SHE" is told 100% what to do by the campaign staff...just as McSame is told.

I have no idea what is up their sleeve but she goes to whatever event and says whatever they want.

Maybe some ideas are...

1. Spending MUCH more time cramming for the final exam (debate.)

2. Honing in on interviewing skills so she can do MTP, Hardball, Snufalupokos, etc.

3. She is having some serious mental problems dealing with this new world.

4. It looks like she is now hurting the campaign and they need her out of site...out of mind.

12. Their campaign probably had them splitting up to cover more ground
but the recent embarrassments of tiny crowds for McW and people walking out of the joint events after Palin spoke, leaving McW talking to empty chairs probably scotched that idea. They are joined at the hip now and they will probably do a tag team thing, where one of them reads one sentence, then the other reads the next sentence, etc., but they have to keep them both on the stage together all the time.

17. That's exact;ly my take on it too
Does anybody know her itinerary? If her solo events are canceled, then where is she going instead? I bet if we check, she is at McCain's side. And I bet you are exactly right that they will do more of the tag team style speech so that the crowd won't be seen leaving when McCain comes to the mic.

This is a big strategic decision for the McCain team because it means that can only cover half as much ground, but considering the alternative it is probably their best bet:

1) McCain isn't embarrassed by smaller crowds than Palin draws
2) She can prop him up when he goes through his daily brain farts
3) The campaign team can issue their retractions and clarifications for both of them at the same time, which is a lot more efficient.

Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 12:06 AM by CakeGrrl
are all out there flying solo, covering 3-4 times the events as McCain/Mooseburgers. Since the Repub candidates also seem to need their spouses glued to their sides, they can't help.

24. Yes, and they can better place the quartet with the demographic they most appeal to as well.
Jill Biden can talk to the professional working women and women 30+.

Michelle Obama can talk to the mothers and young women (18-30) of America.

Joe Biden can talk to the mostly-white, mostly-older "Joe SixPack" blue-collar guys..

Barack Obama can talk to the younger, more ethnically diverse, Americans.

That's the four-pronged attack that will lead to success in November. Each of these four can stand on their own and give their own speeches.

29. Amazing that we have 4 people who can give speeches but McPhalin has to hold hands together
She can barely get through a speech and he can't fill a venue without her. Thank God we have 4 real adults are on ticket.
