News to me.

`60 Minutes' to give hour to McCain, Obama

By DAVID BAUDER – 2 days ago

NEW YORK (AP) — CBS' "60 Minutes" will devote its full broadcast Sunday to profiles of John McCain and Barack Obama with fresh interviews, hoping to set the stage for the general election campaign's first presidential debate on Sept. 26.

Scott Pelley plans to interview McCain in Wisconsin on Thursday, the same day Steve Kroft is talking to Obama in Nevada. Both candidates also talked with the CBS newsmen earlier for pieces that will be unusually long by "60 Minutes" standards.

"I can't get into a cab or have a conversation with somebody on the street without the conversation turning to politics," Kroft said. "The country is totally engaged right now."

Forty years ago "60 Minutes" founding producer Don Hewitt gave the same treatment to candidates Richard Nixon and Hubert Humphrey, although they didn't get the whole show.

Even though Obama and McCain are seen on TV every day, the "60 Minutes" crew believes it can produce pieces that make news and offer perspective. The separate, nearly 20-minute pieces will mix profile material with a snapshot of a moment in the campaign.

1. Profiles?? Been there, done that. How about some unscripted interviews?
Profiles will tell us more about CBS and the producers than they will about the candidate, and the profiles have been done to death on cable.

I suppose this will be new material for anyone not on cable, though.

Sixty minutes has been going downhill for as long as I can remember.

Once upon a time, it seems, they were real investigative journalists.

4. Have you noticed that John can't even handle the scripted interviews?
Like the one recently on morning Joe with Mika?

Of course you have! :-)

The man is simply sad, very sad, very sick.

5. There is no comparison between the two, for so many reasons,
but looks don't hurt. ;) Obama is "SMART", McBush is "OLD and CLUELESS". Period. If Americans can't figure that out, I will encourage my DH to move as fast as he can. Really. He has a few years to retire, providing there's a chance the stock market recovers and jobs don't start going ka-put more than they have been. It's not pretty.

6. We'll see what happens..for a change politics
has caught most everyone's attention this time around with some harsh realities.. and we have an extraordiarily brilliant team working for us from the ground up.

When we win I hope that all these new voters will keep being interested in what's happening in our government and eventually we can overrule the corporatemedia and get a free press back.

I have a feeling Obama Biden is really going to engage peeps from the White HOuse! Tours would really be fun in the White HOuse then:party: :kick:

8. Lets hope Couric doesnt do the interview.
60 Minutes

Katie Couric: Senator Obama do you believe in physical fitness and is it important?

Barack Obama: Why yes I do Katie. It's difficult being on the road so much but I try my best to get some kind of a workout in everyday and I encourage all Americans to do the same. A healthy America is a strong America.

Couric: OMG! Thats so funny! You're a very funny man and you're in great shape too.

Obama: Do you have any questions because I thought this was going to be an interview.

Couric: Oh, yeah, ummm sure...what's your favorite kind of cookie?
