So, we're going to be spending at least $900 billion to bail out the debts of big finance? From figures I've seen, that's just about as much as the total consumer credit (credit-card) debt in America as well. So, why don't we combine the two? Buy out the bad debts of the banks, and also buy out all the credit-card debt of anyone who is willing to give up their cards and live within their means. Just as the bank bailout will be financed by taxes on the rest of us, let the cost of the credit-card bailout be paid for by increased taxes on the financial sector. Just as their bailout must be combined with much tighter restrictions on how they conduct business in the future, combine the credit-card bailout with much stricter restrictions on who can get credit cards (and with a much smaller combined credit line relative to income) in the future as well. The banks, mortgage companies, and Wall Street get a blank slate, and the hundreds of millions of consumers struggling under massive credit-card bills get a blank slate as well. How about it, guys? It's only fair!
