IMO, Palin is holding the McC campaign hostage or outright demanding top billing.
It has been noted that Palin is canceling many events. I think she is making a power move.

It's the old, "he goes or I go power play" or "strike while the iron is hot".

She walks and Cheney loses everything. If John McC is pulled and Cheney moves to VP then he has a chance to stay in his bunker.

She goes on to fight another day down the road.

1. Good point, but I can't see her (as a megalomaniac) giving up anything she's gotten so far
including a place on the ticket.

12. Me neither. She really believes she's the queen-in-waiting.
I really like your graphics. I've been quoting Sinclair Lewis since Sarah came on the scene. That describes her to a 't.'

being V.P., as far as she's concerned.

46. She may not be the brightest bulb...
But she's smart enough not to screw a sure thing up. She knows she's had a tremendously positive impact for McCain. And she knows that this veep slot has made it possible for her to leapfrog guys like Romney and Huckabee and possibly win the nomination in 2012--or, if Obama's very popular and she wants to burnish her credentials--2016.

This woman may think Iraq is a task from God. She may think the Earth is 6,000 years old. But she's NOT enough of a simpleton to jeopardize what could be a very bright future for her in the Republican party.

and troubles are brewing from lots of fronts. I love it.

Let's start with her religion; Obama had to deal with that.

5. I think folks are reading too much into it
Their campaign probably figures that the negative press that occurs when McCain speaks to a handful of people when he's all by his lonesome isn't outweighed by her speaking separately to a few thousand people.

I also heard that McCain recently started speaking first at his rallies, since folks would start to leave after wards when Palin spoke first.

8. Or maybe they are just giving up on Colorado?
That to me makes a lot of sense and would explain why she is canceling her appearances there.

. Or perhaps they see she needs lots of Debate Prep, as repeating "reformer" 'ruffled feathers" "important not to blinK' aren't going to get her very far with Joe Biden.

9. A week ago I bet a lot of GOP heavy-hitters thought they'd dodged an
electoral bullet with the Palin pick.

I bet this week they're singing a different tune.

The woman is so emphatically unprepared to govern it's downright frightening.

18. And of course, to McCain it still is. This is one of the many things
that's wrong with McCain.

He is disconnected from American cultural life and his political positions and temperament reflect that disconnection.

He doesn't know what he doesn't know, in other words.

And while that makes him dangerous on one hand, it also makes him more defeatable on the other.

But made somewhat more plausible by McCain's disastrous appearances to date.

It really is astonishing to listen to how bad he is on the campaign stump, isn't it.

23. But at this point, I don't think they can shove him off the train,
and if they tried, it would mean instant defeat for thousands of down-ballot Pukes "from San Bernadino to Sioux Saint Marie."

And Palin's diamond ring turns out to be an old broken bottle piece, to shamelessly rip off a John Prine lyric.

She wields some capacity to trash the whole campaign for McCain but otherwise has lost her luster. The fundie nutbags still like her, but she wasn't their first choice, and truth be told, I think they're wondering if she's really as workable a theocrat as the theocrats they're used to.

Cheney is doing do crap in every opinion poll. He can exert more influence by creating havoc abroad than he can with the GOP ticket, IMO.

Palin had her 2 weeks in the sun and she couldn't hack it and now she has to pull several all-nighters just to look halfway sentient against Joe Biden, who is going to diplomatically but thoroughly do a little moose fielddressin' in the veep debate.
