My LTTE published in my local paper
They like me at the Examiner, this is my second letter published.

There’s still a lot worth fighting for

Independence, MO —

To the editor:

On Sept. 8, I joined my fellow Democrats in Lee’s Summit to peacefully protest Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin’s visit to John Knox Village. As we stood in the misty rain and held our signs aloft in celebration of our right as Americans to protest that which we consider to be the wrong direction for our country to take, we were spit at, called vile names and told to shut up. One woman in an SUV called me a baby killer, which is painfully ironic, as I am the bereaved mother of a murdered son.

As the long line of cars slowly left the area, we stayed. We were the last ones to leave. We rejoiced and reveled in our freedom to be there, and we maintained our cool throughout. It was an honor and a privilege for me to stand with all that came. Even in grief, I still believe there are some things worth fighting for.

1. Congrats on your dedication to the fight!
I understand this type of thing is unprecedented and glad to see MO out there. I don't hear much from the Missouri folks.

2. Congrats to you! We lived in St. Joseph from 1988-94 and I

joined a few protests myself when there. It's tough to be in the minority. I was the local
pro-choice voice--the St. Joe Gazette reporters used to call me for quotes--on the January anniversary of Roe v Wade anti-choice demonstrations. One year when they published my comments, I got letters
at my home from an Assembly of God minister telling me how to "save myself" and one
telling me how I was going to hell--written in pencil on notebook paper and unsigned.
