If any white person tells you "But I just can't bring myself to vote for a black man," tell them:
"Don't worry--if it's only transportation you're concerned about, I'll give you a ride to the polls."

Thank you. I'll be here all week.

3. Cute
I asked my BIL who he was voting for and he said, in a restaurant, and not quietly, "I'm votin for the white guy", to which I said in mock surprise, "So you're voting for Nader?". He didn't find it amusing, (though my husband and I chuckled) but I don't care. He's a racist asshole and he sickens me.

My serious response to a racist comment like that would be, "I'm voting for the smart guy".

The only other person I know who has come right out and said he won't vote for Obama because he's black is my FIL. Life long union Democrat who hates Reagan and Smirk with every fiber and cell of his being, says he'll stay home. I have a feeling, maybe a hope, that he'll hold his nose and do it. He knows his view on race is wrong and I think he's ashamed of it. It's about, I think, what he went through living in North Philadelphia, one of a few white families that remained in a black neighborhood, or rather, it had been a white part of Philly and became a black community. It was during the depression and they couldn't afford to move and things were very tough for him and his brother. It's still no excuse, but it is what it is. I hope and pray that he will, in the end, come home to us, for his grandchildren.

I don't know anyone else who are that obvious pertaining to race, thank God, but I know they're out there, on every street in my town. I think their numbers are becoming fewer and fewer.

19. Actually, I've often thought how stupid it is for anyone to think Obama or his wife "hate whites"
given that he's half white. I mean, duh.

Unfortunately, bringing up his half-whiteness only makes the hardcore racists hate him more.

I think if there were an "All in the Family" show today, Archie Bunker would be railing against him for precisely that reason. I can almost imagine it now...

GLORIA: I suppose you're voting for John McCain, Daddy?

ARCHIE: Of COURSE I'm votin' fer McCain, little girl! I tell ya, dis Barahm Husseim Obomber, if he gets elected, he's gonna drive this country straight into the terlet!

MIKE: And just where do you think the country is now, Arch?

ARCHIE: In the terlet! But I tell ya, if dis Obomber gets elected, it's not only goin' into the terlet, it's gonna get flushed right out into the East River!

GLORIA: Why do you say that, Daddy?

ARCHIE: Because! Because you can't trust a guy when he don't even know what color he is! Dis Obomber, he's like one a-dem twisty cones you can get at the ice cream stand, half vanilla and half chocolate!

GLORIA: But Daddy! That's the same kind of cone I always used to ask you to get me at the ice cream stand!

ARCHIE: That's yer problem, little girl--you never been able to make up yer mind!

Of course, if Obama got elected and turned out to actually govern in a way that helped Archie become better off, he'd give a knowing grin and then say...

ARCHIE: Well, that Barahm Obahmer, I didn't like him that much when he was runnin' for president, but as it is, he turned out not to be HALF bad. Heh heh!

MIKE: There you go again! There you go, Archie!

ARCHIE: There I go what??

MIKE: You're saying Obama is a good president only because he's half white!

ARCHIE: No, ya Meathead, dat's not what I'm sayin'! I'm sayin' dat he turned out to be a pretty smart guy, dat's all!

MIKE: Why? Because he's not ALL black! Isn't that what you're saying?

ARCHIE: No, Meathead. I am not sayin' dat. I'm just sayin' dat maybe the black half got overcome a bit by the white half, is all!

MIKE: I cannot stay here and listen to this. I'm sorry, Gloria. I can't sit here and listen to him say this.

GLORIA: Don't let it get to you, Michael. Daddy only says nice things about Obama because he supports unions, and the union helped save Daddy's job, and he even got a pay increase this year.

MIKE: Yeah. You think McCain would've done that?

ARCHIE: Well, no, I admit, McCain wouldn't a' done ANYTIN' for me dis year. But only 'cause, DIS year, he DIED!

(MIKE and GLORIA shake heads)

10. Racists obviously arent worried about the issues...
like my 15 y/o's stepfather who has her trained to say if she could vote, she wouldnt vote for the Muslim black (and that is NOT the word she used...but I refer to even mention the letter that is used)... After almost driving my car off the road, I simply asked her what she had done to educate herself about Obama or if she was just going by the ignorant lies and scare tactics that she had been told...

13. Having lived in the South all of my life, I can tell you with some
certainty, that racism isn't necessarily and all or nothing social view. There are many degrees of
racism. Many racists could very well decide to vote of Obama if they feel that his Presidency would be better for them.

In certain regions of the Country, people acquire a "default racist view" from an early age. That view can and often is modified for the better as individuals move through life and gain wisdom.

school in a small town in the deep South. During the year prior to integration she overheard numerous
racial remarks from her fellow teachers. However, when the black children showed up for school during the first year of integration, the same teachers became very supportive when they observed first hand the challenges that the black children had been and were facing, i.e. poverty, prejudices, and inadequate schooling.

Those teachers, for the most part, underwent complete attitude changes about the presence of black children in the schools. It appeared to my wife and me that their more basic human instincts as mothers had preempted their former negative views about blacks being in the schools.

I share this story to point out a phenomenon that I witness over and over. Many,if not most, people will respond humanely in the face of innocent reality of difficult human conditions. Attitudes are not carved in stone. They can be altered by experiences.

9. And for the ones who say that "this country ain't ready for a black man to be president" say this:
"I know! Isn't it grand that he's as much white as he is black? You know, all of us come from a mixed heritage. Have you traced your family tree back yet?" And smile sweetly.

I'm convinced that the only "purebred" ppl left in the world are the ones in another country who inbred to keep their race pure. They're STOOPID, but they are PURE. :puke:

16. I'm grateful that black people have not held that
position. How would Clinton ever have won or any white Democrat?
It's mind boggling. There was a poll on this on Yahoo today, I posted it elsehwere so I won't post it again.
There are plenty of racists out there. And I do think some know they are wrong, and are ashamed to admit it, but those are the folks who scare me as to what they'll do when they get inside the voting booth.
