Hispanic Repuke chairman from NM: "Hispanics consider themselves above blacks. "
Well folks, looks like the DailyKOS scores big time and has found us this week's #1 on the Top 10 Conservative Idiots.

"The truth is that Hispanics came here as conquerors," he said. "African-Americans came here as slaves. "Hispanics consider themselves above blacks. They won't vote for a black president."

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2008/9/20/104339/044/900/604217

If there's a video, it needs to go viral on YouTube. African-American and Hispanic turn-out will SOAR if this shit's able to hit the fan!

1. So they consider themselves below whites? So they'll vote for them?
What an idiot

2. He probably also considers himself above Hispanics who came from Mexico
as a Hispanic, I hate that "my family came from Spain" line.

I always say "I'm Mexican!!!!"

4. You might be right
There's a few of those at at work but at least they will be voting for Obama (althought they are not too crazy about him).

3. yeah.. right
that's why the Hispanic vote is heavily in Obama's corner.

SHE may think so since most repukes think that way but she has no business speaking for all hispanics.

The major point she misses is that Blacks and Hispanics don't trust the repukes and that carries more weight than anything.

6. Reprehensible. Sadly, that's how some racist Hispanics feel.
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 10:35 AM by elkston
It's not talked about much because some whites naively assume a stronger "minorty solidarity" between Latinos and Blacks that isn't necessarily the case.

15. no doubt there are tensions between Blacks and Hispanics
especially the younger teens/adults etc..however at this level I don't see Hispanics voting against Obama as implied here. Yes, some will but they are already republican. The working class Hispanic voter will still vote Democratic in the end.

18. I know. :-)
Given that I'm from Canada, my experiences with Hispanics have been somewhat limited, but even more than that, they've been incredibly positive. It was through my exposure to liberation theology from my Christian socialist Spanish and religion teacher (a beautiful and intelligent lady of Irish heritage married to this incredible guy from the DR...She has a double-masters in theology and Latin American studies and is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Latin.) that I began a drift leftwards from the Minarchist cesspool that I had been trapped in for a couple of years. Sadly for her, it wasn't enough to keep me from atheism...lol...But still, the fact that my atheist-leaning classmates were me-first market liberals with a bit of a racist streak painted her in a very favourable light and delayed my conversion. Everybody who knows me also knows that I have become a big apologist for the Bolivarian revolution (and a tireless attacker of the atrocities committed by Latin America's disingenuous cappies and social democrats in countries like Venezuela and Mexico), which should be evident from my user name...I would love to be Ecuador right now, involved in the process of drafting the new constitution that will pave that country's way to egalitarianism, sustainability, liberty, and social justice. :-)

23. The younger generation is improving relations bit by bit
Granted there are those who are racist towards blacks just as in the Caribbean a light skinned mulatto can be the worst racist ... defying logic but sadly true.

7. He is probably descended from this guy:
Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%81lvar_N%C3%BA%C3%B1ez_Cabeza_de_Vaca

and if so, needs to be more like his ancestor:

Cabeza de Vaca explored what is now the U.S. state of Texas, and possibly smaller portions of New Mexico and Arizona. He traveled on foot along the Texas coast and up the Rio Grande and then down the Gulf Coast to Sinaloa, Mexico, over a period of roughly eight years, during which time he lived in conditions of abject poverty and, occasionally, in slavery. During his wanderings, passing from tribe to tribe, he developed sympathies for the indigenous population

9. a lot of New Mexico hispanics think of themselves as 'different'
'different' meaning 'white'. It's a cultural thing there, so I'm not too surprised to hear something like this from a NM hispanic repug. I grew up in LA and I think this guy would be quite surprised at how different attitudes there are. Plus, he ought to check the polls about hispanics and how they're fleeing the GOP...reality check time.

21. Agreed! Many Latinos I've talked to say they are proud to vote for Obama
and they are getting along fine with blacks, and that is in L.A. known for gang fighting between the groups. Voters however know that united we stand and divided we fall and that Obama represents their interests.

That said, some Latinos have a wait until the debates attitude ... so there is still work to be done in that community.

Also, many Latinos were very pro-Hillary but most are coming around.
