Anchorage Paper: McCain Confuses National Guard and Army Troops
Anchorage Paper: McCain Confuses National Guard and Army Troops

NEW YORK From David Hulen at the always-valuable Alaska Politics blog at the Anchorage Daily News (www.adn.com) tonight:

"Candidates spend a lot of time talking, and they all misspeak sometimes. But did anyone else notice this, from Wednesday's much-covered McCain-Palin Town Hall event in Grand Rapids, Mich., where Palin answered questions from people in the audience?

"McCain said this near the end of the clip below, as he's talking up Palin's foreign policy/national security credentials:
'I also know, if I might remind you, that she is commander of the Alaska National Guard. In fact, you may know that on Sept. 11 a large contingent of the Alaska Guard deployed to Iraq and her son happened to be one of them. So I think she understands our national security challenges....'

"The ceremony Palin attended at Fort Wainwright last week didn't involve the Alaska National Guard. Palin's son is in the Army, and his unit - 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division - deployed to Iraq."

3. I tell ya that guy is too old and it shows.
He's either too tired to think straight, or he's too forgetful.

The only other explanation is that he doesn't bother to get it straight in the first place--poor student that he was/is.

4. What a spectacle--both of them are just spewing
out the bits and pieces of her life that appear to remotely connect with the reality of presidential and vice-presidential duties...and they've done it so much it's just rote now, and they're not even paying attention to meaning anymore. It's really pretty sad to see the erstwhile "Maverick" sink this low.

5. McCain is turning into America's village idiot. And fast.
I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone fall apart so fast in public. He and Sarah make quite a pair, don't they? I'm so ashamed of them. What must the rest of the world think of us for even considering such an embarrassing, ridiculous ticket for the presidency and VP?

6. I have been trying not to cast "asparagus" on his mental faculties...
but I worked with Alzheimer's patients for several years and when I first started I would be utterly convinced that some of them didn't have anything wrong, until a bad day and then it was heartbreakingly obvious. It is not just sundowning, in the earlier stages they can go days or even weeks where they are fully aware, but then they unravel. Sometimes they come back to lucidity for periods of time, sometimes they don't

8. Yet another senior moment. S E C.... F E C.... Army.. National Guard...
it will just get worse for him the longer this campaign goes on. He is to old for this shit and it is going to be obvious to everyone fairly soon.

Maybe as soon as this friday, after the first debate
