Barry McCain
Or John Goldwater, if you prefer. It was over for the conservatives. The cold war was no longer popular, merely terrifying and exhausting. It had gotten to the point where a guy couldn't tell a joke about nuking Hanoi without a big stink in the press.

The comeback regarding Barry's campaign slogan "In your heart, you know he's right" was "Yeah, far right." And it stuck. All Goldwater seemed to be offering America was to heat up the cold war, and to bring John Birch values out of the backwater of American politics into the White House.

America shuddered in revulsion, and went on to vote for a more socially liberal, civilized captive of the military industrial media cmplex. But it did not escape the basic paradigm of America, captive of unending war. Vietnam taught us nothing, indeed, the collapse of the Soviet Union only encouraged more international policy via bombing in other areas where immediate diplomatic success was not forthcoming.

Here we are at the apex of that arc, and have no domestic economy that is not a ponzi scheme involving mortgages. We have military presence in more than one hundred nations but cannot rescue our storm wrecked gulf coast. We have had three elections with open cheating from the republics and were lied into war by the most corrupt administration in the history of the wide stance party and impeachment is off the table. And the free market they said was our salvation turns out to be a clip joint.

And here's John McCain, quoting Hoover while Wall Street burns, and hopefully, burying free market conservatism forever, but first, somebody has to pound a wooden stake through its heart. We failed to do that last time, and see what happened? We need to beat the snake handling right down so hard it is a generation just finding its teeth.

3. He's not a conservative
He's fallen in with the Smash and Grab Radicals, and is their captive.
