And with this...the election should be over
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 11:23 AM by kpete
And with this, the election should be over

It won't be, because we have to talk about lipstick and pigs and probably Jeremiah Wright one more time, but it sure should be over after people learn about this one.

It comes via Paul Krugman, or actually a reader of Krugman's, http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/09/19/mccain-on-banking-and-health/ who alerted him to these passages McCain had written in an obscure actuarial journal about market-based health reform:

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.
http://www.contingencies.org/septoct08/mccain.pdf

Oops! Blast those early deadlines! Haven't we all written something for monthlies or quarterlies that was, as we say in our trade, "overtaken by events."

Overtaken by events, in the sense that he'd like to have those words back. But nevertheless expressive of what the McCain campaign actually believes. Make healthcare more like banking. If Obama and the DNC aren't all over this immediately, it's malpractice.

6. NO! Obama did NOT mention this at all in his radio speech - I read the transcript...
Obama needs to mention THIS mcINSANE QUOTE ON RUNNING HEALTH CARE LIKE THE BANKING INDUSTRY.

Obama did not at ALL in any way shape or form mention this...

All obama talked about was the "fundamentals of the economy..." quote...

11. got to be SPECIFIC in posts...you more correct on THAT speech...
but even in that speech, he STILL did not specifically mention mcINSANE's earlier article either...

he talked about mcISANE's support of investing SS in the stock market - NOT THE SAME THING...

15. As others have said, "if it didn't happen on the TV machine"
It didn't happen. Sorry to say that most people get their information from the least reliable sources. I know within my own family that this is true. All my sisters are people I would consider intelligent and pretty well educated. We grew up in the same environment and had pretty much the same influences in our formative years. One will support McSame because he's been around and put a woman on the ticket. She complains that she doesn't know anything about Obama, but she doesn't do an research. Another sister, who also doesn't do any research, is prone to religious insanity thinks that the "pro-life" stance is reason enough to support the Repub ticket. I keep trying to tell them that what they hear and see in the corporate media isn't just BS, it's propaganda.

I use the story of a Russian immigrant who compared the US media to Pravda. He said that at least they knew the major media was spin and propaganda. Unfortunately, we in the US don't understand we are being lied to. Those few of us who do spend many hours searching out information that doesn't come through official channels.

9. Ye gads. We've seen what Phil Gramm and deregulation can do to the insurance industry
vis a vis AIG.

Heh, on second thought maybe we should let them go ahead. That would be one way to get socialized medicine.
