Obama hits 50% today in the Gallup Daily Tracking - I found the graph (correct date) O 50% - M 44%
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 12:13 PM by Pirate Smile

I changed yesterday's date to today's and presto!

This will tie his record high after the Democratic National Convention (see below).

OK - here is today's:
September 20, 2008
Gallup Daily: Obama 50%, McCain 44%Obama maintains lead

Obama has held at least a small margin over McCain in each of the last four daily reports, generally coincident with the start of the Wall Street financial meltdown that began to dominate the news on Monday this past week. Separate Gallup consumer confidence tracking has shown that Americans' views of the economy deteriorated as the week progressed, and that Americans also began to express increased personal worry about their own finances. There is thus a reasonable inference that Obama's gains may, in part, be related to the way in which the public viewed his and McCain's response to the financial crisis. Friday's economic news was a bit more positive, with the announcement of a pending major U.S. government bailout for the country's economy, and the second day of significant increases in the Dow Jones Industrial Average and other stock market indices. It remains to be seen if this will affect Obama's lead in the days ahead.

Obama's current 50% rating matches his 50% record high reached just after the Democratic National Convention. (That came in Gallup Poll Daily tracking from Aug. 30-Sept. 1.) However, his current six percentage point advantage is not as large as the nine-point lead he held in late July and an eight-point lead after the Democratic National Convention in late August. It is important to note that McCain recovered and moved ahead after each of these Obama high points, suggesting that it is certainly possible that McCain could recover in this situation as well.

Both candidates will be on stage at the University of Mississippi this coming Friday for the first of three presidential debates, and the public's reactions to the candidates' performances there could certainly have an impact on their election standing. (To view the complete trend since March 7, 2008, click here.) -- Frank Newport

He also hit 50% today in the Research 2000/Daily Kos Daily Tracking Poll:

Yesterday, he was at 49%. McCain was at 44%

This is Friday's:

September 19, 2008
Gallup Daily: Obama Now Leads McCain by 5 Points

At 49%, support for Obama is near his record high for the year

This is the fourth consecutive day that Obama has inched forward in voter preferences since the start of the Wall Street financial meltdown beginning with the announcement on Sunday, Sept. 14, that Lehman Brothers was headed for bankruptcy. The overall effect has been to shift the lead back to Obama after McCain had moved ahead following the Republican National Convention.

Obama's current 49% rating is close to his 50% record high reached just after the Democratic National Convention. (That came in Gallup Poll Daily tracking from Aug. 30-Sept. 1.) However, his current five-point advantage is still lower than his 9-point lead in late July (following his trip to Europe and the Middle East) and his 8-point leads right after the Democratic National Convention in late August.

This is Today's R2K Tracking Poll:
9/20 Daily Kos R2K Tracking Poll: Obama 50, McCain 42
by DemFromCT
Sat Sep 20, 2008 at 05:09:37 AM PDT

Today's Daily Kos Research 2000 tracking poll has Obama up by over McCain 50-42 (LV, MoE +/- 3).

Notable is Sarah Palin's - 7 fav/unfav, and McCain's - 1, suggesting further erosion in that ticket's standing (see trendlines.)

Obama finally took the lead in Rasmussen.

"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows Barack Obama with 48% of the vote and John McCain with 47%."

I don't think the Diageo/Hotline Daily Tracker Poll comes out on the weekends so we wont hear from them until Monday.

By Halloween we'll know what Rove is doing to counter Obama big time and then we'll freak out again for sure... meantime let's work like there's no tomorrow and this is our last chance at survival in the USA

6. THe more people hear
McCain's psychotic babbling the less comfortable they should be envisioning him in charge of this country.

He sounded bizarre and disjointed yesterday. Blaming Obama for this mess was pretty silly.

7. One nice thing with this
is that McCains numbers aren't moving. To me this indicates movement among the undecided and independent to Obama instead of McCain which should show us a decrease in the percentage of undecideds soon. If all goes well, and I think it will, we should next start to see McCains numbers start to drop as his soft supporters move to the undecided column and then into Obamas.

All this of course is IMO and with obvious bias and hope.

Unfortunately, these independents might disappear in an instance if something happens in the world. If the Rep want to win, they just have to start a little war or something.

Typically, Fridays are poorer polling days for Obama, as we see his numbers static or dip in Saturday's release from Gallup.

This is good news indeed!

17. I added it - O 48% - M 47%. Ras changed their weighting to include more Republicans after the
RNC because they said more people are now calling themselves Republicans. The new weighting has definitely helped McCain in their polling IMO.

18. Talked to a couple off-duty cops last night.
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 11:44 AM by VolcanoJen
To make ends meet, they work as security guards at my workplace overnight. They're terrific guys, but traditional Bush-voting conservatives.

Last night, while hanging out in the lobby and watching CNN, they both told me they're with Obama. They're far more frustrated with the Palin pick than with the economy right now, although I imagine the economy will move even more people toward Obama.

They told me that cops are very, very anti-Palin due to the TrooperGate story, which I found fascinating.

The dam may very well be breaking.

33. Exactly.
Cops are rather fraternal, and sometimes in a very good way. They see Trooper Wooten as being rail-roaded by some power-hungry sister-in-law who had chosen sides during a nasty divorce.

It's probably not unlike their own personal experiences, or those of their coworkers.

They feel strongly that Trooper Wooten paid the price through his suspension, and Palin's actions since are a clear abuse of power.

It's just fascinating.

why would they write:
