My Fellow Americans...
We are in the midst of the most difficult of times. Our economy is facing a severe crisis. Six million people have dropped into poverty in the last seven years. Millions without health care. Our infrastructure is detrioating. Roads and bridges are becoming unsafe to travel.
In short, we are in a serious crisis.
This crisis was not created overnight. And, it can not be solved overnight. I am running for the Office of President of the United States, and I will tell you the truth. Because I know, you, the American people are ready to hear the truth and to speak of false comfort or easy solutions is not only a disservice to this nation, but an insult to your intelligence and ability. You know what is going on, even if politicians try to sell you a myth of America that no longer exists.
You know that well-paying American jobs are a rarity, and even, low paying, service based jobs are becoming hard to find.
You know that the health care system is in crisis, and the cost of co-pays and premiums threaten to push you over the financial brink.
You know that sending to your children to college is becoming a fantasy rather then a concrete possibility...
You know the perils that this nation faces because you live them. And, what you live is the reality of this nation.
Our cities are lined with pawn shops and gated windows. Tent cities are being erected in parking lots for the WORKING homeless. Miles upon miles of once bustling factories stand in waste and ruin.
This is the reality of where America stands today. And, it can't be ignored any longer.
And, we won't ignore it any longer. Enough is enough is ENOUGH. We, the American People, are not cowards. We are not afraid of the truth because we know that in confronting what is REALLY going on in this nation, we can and we WILL find ways to solve our problems and ressurect our once great land, better and stronger then before. The American people are some of the most ingenious, capable, creative, hard working, and strong willed people in the world. And, I know together we can overcome this dark time and make a future so bright that our children and grandchildren will marvel at the strength and courage we mustered in the bleakest of hours....
But, make no mistake. This will not be easy. We will have to unite as a people. We will have to stand together and stop focusing on all that divides us, and come together for all the common struggles we face. We have done it before. And, we can do it again.
Over the next weeks and months, I will be working with the best minds and best hearts of this nation, to develop REAL solutions to the problems we all face. And, I will be presenting this nation with ideas and solutions on how to move this nation forward. But, I can not do this alone. I need for all of you to join me, to fight with me for a better America. I, need for you, to understand that their will be sacrifices for us all, but I promise you that the heaviest load will be placed on those most able to bear the burden and who have benefited the most from the properity of America. This is not about me. It is about you and the America your children will inherit.
In the words of Martin Luther King Jr:
"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant".
Now, is the time for truth and unconditional love for each other. Now is the time for the right and just to rise and triumph over the evil and greed that have permeated our government and divided our people.
I have no doubt that we can and will succeed, if only we join together in reviving the integrity and justice of America.
