The number of people out of work in Florida continues to climb.

The state’s unemployment rate jumped to 6.5 percent in August, it’s highest level in more than 13 years

That means 606,000 employable Floridians are jobless.

The rate jumped by 0.3 point in just one month and 2.3 points in a year. It hasn’t been this high since January 1995.

Florida’s jobless rate also higher than the national figure for August of 6.1 percent, and it’s a full point higher than state economists had predicted for the current quarter in a forecast released in mid-July.
