Is this the gaffe of the campaign? McCain: I'll do to healthcare what we did to banking

In this just released McCain white paper on the health industry McCain says that he will solve the health care crises by de-regulating the health industry just like the banking industry.

Opening up the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition, as as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by the worst excesses of state-based regulation.
Consumer-friendly insurance policies will be more available and affordable when there is greater competition among insurers on a level playing field. You should be able to buy your insurance from any willing provider—the state bureaucracies are no better than national ones. Nationwide insurance markets that ensure broad and vigorous competition will wring out excess costs, overhead, and bloated executive compensation.

So now we have the details on McCain/Palin Reform Plan

Take the crippling handling of the banking meltdown

And it apply it to every sector of the economy

The above statement was made in the current issue of Contigencies, The American Academy of Acturaries

15. A pamplet he sent out for Sept/Oct 2008 - but the quote is just opening up interstate barriers
However, the quote appears to be "opening the health insurance market to more vigorous nationwide competition (instead of limited to a single state), as we have done over the last decade in banking, would provide more choices of innovative products less burdened by
the worst excesses of state-based regulation.

I hope Obama does an ad about this... and plays it all over, everywhere. It really accomplishes two things: first it shows how clueless McCain was/is to the financial situation, and secondly it demonstrates in crystal clarity how devastating it would be to have that an individual of such clueless-ness in control over other crucially important areas of our society/country.

59. This reminds me of Lyndon Johnson's plant o accuse an opponent of having
sex with pigs. His aide said, "But that isn't true," and Johnson replied, "Yeah, but I want to see him publicly defending himself against the charge that he has sex with pigs."

The fact that McCain's people have to publicly address this idea hurts him a lot. Obviously, this isn't a false charge leveled by his opponent, but in my opinion, that just means it does even more harm. The point is, the McCain campaign has to be all over the broadcast media talking about the fact that McCain wants the health care industry to be deregulated and treated just like the financial industry.

This is McCain's plan. This how he wants to treat everything-banks, Wall Street, Health Care, Social Security, the environment. Everything and it is nothing new, this is the Republican game plan and they've been executing it at least since the "Reagan Revolution" that McCain rode in on the coattails of.

50. OH thank you love the excerpts I love that we broke it first lol
McCain's campaign, caught off guard by the uproar caused by the article, called the criticism from Obama a red herring

An article about health care published in an obscure journal led to a new skirmish Saturday between the campaigns of Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain over who should be trusted with the ailing economy.

The article, which appeared under Sen. McCain's name, included a favorable reference to banking deregulation that, in light of this week's near-meltdown in the financial industry, provided an irresistible target for Sen. Obama's campaign and once again put McCain on the defensive. McCain's campaign accused Obama of manufacturing an attack by deliberately misreading the Republican's words.

The article was published in Contingencies magazine, which is produced under the auspices of the American Association of Actuaries. In it, McCain touted his plans for increasing competition in health care as one way to expand coverage and reduce costs.

Just wait for the daily McShame tax lie and counter with this and escalate it into an ad campaign. It's probably true but if not it still would be getting airplay. This is the kind of thing that completely undermines Republicans.
