Drive safe and courteously while displaying your Obama bumperstickers
The other day I was exiting I84 west on to Route 17m west. Route 17m is a total of 6 lanes wide; two traffic lanes each way, one left hand turning lane each way. There is a traffic light about an eighth of a mile from the I84 exit. I needed to get into the left hand turning lane to make the left at this light. As I turned on my directional and started to make my way across the two lanes of traffic I notice, a little too late, a fast-ly approaching vehicle in the left traffic lane.
The driver of this vehicle had more then enough time to slow down and proceed behind me. But instead he got into the median left hand turning lane and accelerated past me in the turning lane.
As he passed me he shouted something out his passenger window, then as he got in front of me he turned around to give me the finger out of the driver's side window.
This whole time the light that we were approaching was red. It had been red from the time I exited I84 onto Rt. 17m. There were about 35 cars stopped in the three westbound lanes that we were quickly approaching.
The driver was unable to stop in time. He gave it a valiant effort, skidding a good 15 feet, brakes locked and smokin, trying hard to curb his momentum.
He only tapped the driver in front of him. The car he hit didn't hit the car that was stopped in front of it, although the cars were already very close together.
There was a cop waiting in the east bound lane at this light and immediately flipped his lights on and crossed over to the scene.

This bad driver had an old "W" sticker on his SUV.

I remembered it well as he passed me. As he flipped me the bird. As the smoke and scream of his brakes consumed my car. I remember it as I drove past him a couple of minutes later.

Just a friendly reminder to drive safe and courteously while displaying your Obama stickers. It is the civil thing to do.

1. Hah hah!
Too bad he didn't slam into a pole -- not enough to kill or maim him, just enough to REALLY shake him up.

Sheesh! Arrogant a-holes and their W stickers...

2. When I saw him in my rearview
I thought to myself "where is he going?" I smiled and slowed down as he passed me, so that he could stop in time, and I could continue into the left hand turning lane. Even though I slowed down to ensure that he could pass, then stop, it was of no use.

It was like slow motion.
Exit
blinker
left lane
whoa! this guy is comin up fast!
(as he passed on the left) where is he goin?
(as he flipped me the bird) where is he goin?
(as the smoke and sound of his brakes overtook the intersection) I hope a cop saw that!
Then he tapped the car in front, a cop saw the whole thing from the eastbound lane.
Cop lights. People getting out of cars.

It all happened in like four seconds. It was so surreal.

3. It's rare that you see instant comeuppance for people like that.
You saw it...Glad you avoided an accident with that mor-an. :hi:

4. I'm afraid my magnetic sticker will get stolen.
I'm retired and going to school full time. When I get to school I take it off. Yesterday I left it on and nothing happened.

I went to the military commissary with my sticker displaed. I was sitting in the car and saw a couple walking past me and staring and pointing at it. Maybe they were shocked to see an Obama sticker on a car with Disabled Vet plates. I live in Texas.

5. must be hard being blue in a red state
as a Catholic, I understand being in the minority (I would say that Catholics are split or leaning McCain at this time - might change down the road as the GOP Veep is vetted).

I have a neighbor that is a disabled vet that is a democrat. Actually we have a couple disabled / retired vets on our local committee now that I think about it.

6. You reminded me of an incident yesterday.
I was waiting to turn left, and had to let all the oncoming traffic through first. The guy behind me layed on his horn, as if there were anything different I could do. When I was able to turn, I turned around and gave him the one-finger salute. Now I wonder if he was really reacting to my Obama bumper sticker; lol!

7. My patience and courteousness around drivers with W or McCain stickers is zero
My car is free of stickers, mostly because I drive like an asshole anyway.

the trick is to always act as if you are stoned
when you are high you have to be very cautious and careful to compensate for your impaired abilities. follow the laws, be safe and courteous. But I bet LA is pretty hairy..

9. I taped a small Obama sign to my dashboard
to remind me that I have an Obama bumpersticker on the back of the car just for this reason (I try to be courteous anyway, but I do tend to drive fast).

11. Coming back from New Orleans on i-10 to Orlando
I noticed 17 cars were out of commission sitting on the shoulder. The ironic thing is that they all had these things in common:

Bush/Cheney Stickers
W stickers
McCain Stickers
and one had a fucking Rudy Guiliani sticker

12. I'm incapable of driving courteously. I think it's a genetic deficiency or something.
But I don't want to take my Obama sticker off.

Doesn't matter since I'm in LA anyway, and it's almost impossible to find a Republican around here.

13. I admit, I have made an effort to drive more courteously since I put on my Obama bumper sticker.
I want to be a good steward of his message, in a sense. But it is very, VERY difficult to have a lot of patience while driving in Atlanta. :scared:
