Bush warns Democrats against trying to help middle-class with bailout measure.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080920/ap_on_bi_ge/financial_meltdown">YAHOO - AP

Democratic rival Barack Obama used the party's weekly radio address to call for help for Main Street as well as Wall Street.

"We need to help people cope with rising gas and food prices, spark job creation by repairing our schools and our roads, help states avoid painful budget cuts and tax increases, and help homeowners stay in their homes," Obama said. "And we must also ensure that the solution we design doesn't reward particular companies, or irresponsible borrowers or lenders, or CEOs, some of whom helped cause this mess."

Their language reflected a tricky balance that politicians in both parties are trying to strike, just six weeks before Election Day: Back a plan that doles out hundreds of billions to companies that made bad bets and still identify with the plight of middle-class voters.

Besides mortgage help, Democrats are considering attaching additional middle-class assistance to the legislation despite a request from Bush to avoid adding controversial items that could delay action. An expansion of jobless benefits was one possibility.

Bush sidestepped questions about the chances of adding such items, saying that now was not the time for posturing. "I think most leaders would understand we need to get this done quickly, and you know, the cleaner the better," he said about legislation being drafted.

Bullsh*t Mr. Bush.

16. President Bush is a kind, senstive, ...
self-reflective man who loves all Americans. He understands that only through trickle-down economics does middle class America have a chance to achieve lasting prosperity. God has blessed President Bush with the understanding, humility, intelligence and vision to solve our economic crisis by getting nasty, mean intrusive, BIG government out of peoples lives and replacing it with a Horatio Alger, pull-yourself-up-by-the-bootstraps economic philosophy that will ensure economic prosperity for 1000 years. He will follow the advice of the few economic geniuses that can still be trusted, such as Phil Gramm and Carly Fiorina. God Bless President Bush - because God talks to him (and to Sarah Palin, but not to John McCain:( ).

I know this is all true because I read it on the internet.O8)

11. And we still have to pay for the war
in Iraq. There is no telling how many years we will be in someone's or some country's debt. As far as I know that money has never been in the budget.

9. The more and more the Repubs do this, the more like the French Revolution the US will become.
They are unnaturally cruel and unforgiving to the 'fundamentals' of this nation. I think even with Obama here I will still have to leave because Obama can't be there forever.

12. Yep! That's against the rules....
We can't help the middle-class. We are only permitted to help the wealthy because if we don't nothing will trickle down upon us. We will not be blessed with their goodwill. They will no longer be able to rob us with their shell game called "mortgages", where you will pay 3 times the value of your house to them. Naw, we should never help the middle class...

13. I get so !@#$% tired of hearing,
"Now is not the time ...." I heard it enough during the fight for the Equal Rights Ammendment, during the time for Affirmative Action at USU, during thewhole fem-lib movement. So "now is not the time" to help the middle class? I'd like to put Bush in a straight jacket and keep him in the Capitol's basement until next January.

22. Unbelieveable!!!
I'm not a death penalty guy but damn if this bunch of slugs don't deserve the public square treatment. Talk like this makes me grow into a mentality that it is better to reclaim what comes from the ashes than to accept what they let drop from the table.
