Obama August funds beat McCain

By JIM KUHNHENN – 1 hour ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama reports spending more than $53 million in August and ends the month with $77 million in the bank.

Obama outraised and outspent Republican rival John McCain, according to reports filed Saturday with the Federal Election Commission. McCain reports raising $47 million to Obama's $65 million. McCain spent $41 million in August.

Advertising accounted for more than half of each campaign's expenditures. Most of that money was spent in about a dozen states considered crucial to win the presidential contest.

Together, both campaigns spent nearly $94 million in August, a record rate of $3 million a day.

1. All of this gets confusing to me.
How can McCain raise money when he accepted public funding? I thought his campaign could only spend 84 million. Then he has the RNCs money to spend, right?

But yet Obama just depends basically on his campaign and the DNC.....but not public funding?

2. Public funding didn't kick in until after their convention
These are August's numbers, before McCain was limited to public funds.

4. Hah hah.
Before Dean and the rise of The Tubes of the Internets, I'll bet these a-holes never envisioned a time when Democrats would outraise them handily.
