Anyone else watching SNL?
Edited on Sat Sep-20-08 11:01 PM by jenmito
McCain being portrayed as out of touch with technology but also as kind of unwittingly approving of false attack ads. Makes him look kind of sympathetic.

ETA-After seeing the comments on this thread, I'd like to amend my opinion. I think it worked better than I originally thought. Thanks, everybody! I'm nothing if not open-minded. :hi:

5. I agree. It made him look honest but "misled" by his campaign people...
just like the pundits have said-they think he'd never approve of those negative ads.

2. I don't think it helped McCain at all... makes it seem like he's lost control of his campaign

Which is true. It's being run by other people.

7. But it also made him look like he didn't really approve of those negative ads.
They could've been tougher on him.

18. They were tough on Palin. They portrayed her as she really is. They didn't do that to
McCain. They could've had him enthusiastically approving each of those messages.

21. They don't make these skits solely for political reasons. They'll be going after Obama soon enough.

22. He reminds me of Reagan...
...and not because of his age. I never really felt like Reagan was a bad person. But he surrounded himself with creeps and they ran the show. And at the end of the day, the buck stops with the guy at the top so it really doesn't matter. The longer this campaign goes on, the more convinced I am that McCain will not be able to keep his people in line.

3. I think they struch the right cord there. Out of touch...
Too out of it to know he's approving lies and the like.

Funny and making the point without looking too partisan.

It wasn't really funny. I don't think SNL could beat the Palin/Hillary skit from last week :)

8. The skit neutralized future McCain "guilt-by-association" ads against Obama

The skit helped LIVs be able to reject the message of McCain future "Wright/Ayers" ads.

15. Jen.... you're missing the point of the skit...

Subliminally, people will see future McCain ads and realize that they are bogus.

They will also realize that McCain wouldn't be in control of his own executive branch if he were elected... that a hidden cadre of advisors would be running the country, just like their running his campaign.

Skit's message: He's a "front man" with no say in his own campaign.

Every skit about McCain doesn't have to portray him as a dick in order to be effective.

30. That's how I saw it....
That McCain is weak and doing things only to win....
and that lies are being told about Barack......including lies based on loose association.

It goes well with Obama's schtick of "It's not that John McCain doesn't care, it is that John McCain just doesn't know".

I think portraying McCain as a man without a clue works well. Since they have portrayed Palin of just plain stupidity.....why would anyone want to vote for that ticket, considering our problems.

They slammed him. Made him look like a old man who couldn't care less about his once claimed integrity. It was a message to the media too. These loser network anchors are actually influenced by this ridiculousness.
