The 9/11 of financial sector: Seriously, what the hell are we going to do about it?

This post is to give a central place to talk about ACTION in response to the Bail-Out Proposal of the Bush administration - please post your ideas and thoughts on how to react and unite, here....

The top post on the home page written by Laris Alexandrovna states:

"The Bush family, in the form of Prescott Bush, has tried a more aggressive coup before in order to install fascism in this country. This treasonous plot was called "the Business Plot," because the high-level plotters - including Prescott Bush - were Wall Street men who openly supported fascism.

It seems this time around, the Bush family is trying the more subtle approach to open bloodshed: first create a crisis, then under the guise of addressing that crisis, overthrow democracy. Yes, it does sound terribly conspiracy-theory-esque when explained just this way. But what else does one call a criminal conspiracy to destroy Congressional powers permanently, alter Judicial powers permanently, and steal public funds?

As I see it now, we have but two options and I have long alluded to hoping against hope that one of these options would not be the only one left to a peaceful people. The first and frankly most preferable option is for Congress to immediately begin impeachment proceedings against the members of this latest Business Plot.

No time needs to be wasted on hearings as we already now have in writing, formally as presented to Congress, the intentions of this administration to nullify Congressional powers permanently, to alter Judicial powers permanently, and to openly steal public funds using as blackmail the total collapse of the US economy if these powers are not handed over. You do see how this is blackmail, do you not? You do see how this is a manufactured crisis precisely designed to be used as blackmail, do you not?"

It seems that the time to take to the streets en masse is here. I don't know how to lead this type of thing, but we can't allow this happen. Yes, I will be on the phone to my reps tomorrow, and I will be calling Pelosi and Reid, and I already a wrote a LTTE last night and signed a couple of petitions. All the stuff we always do, all the stuff they always ignore. I am not saying not to do these actions, I am saying that this is so serious we can't just shrug our shoulders, if/when they ignore us again.

My thoughts are that we need Obama. We need him to come out and state that NO Congressional Powers will be transferred to the executive branch (summarized again from the above articles):

Adam Davidson of NPR blogs about the so-called bailout bill as follows:

I would guess that this has to be one of the biggest peacetime transfers of power from Congress to the Administration in history. (Anyone know?). Certainly one of the most concise.

The Treasury Secretary can buy broadly defined assets, on any terms he wants, he can hire anyone he wants to do it and can appoint private sector companies as financial deputies of the US government. And he can write whatever regulation he thinks are needed.

Most importantly, Davidson points to this passage in the bill:

Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.

We need leadership on this issue now. We need Obama to fight for all the things he says he will fight for...We must contact his campaign and tell him to come out full tilt against this crime-in-progress. I think there is no political risk in this - he doesn't have to oppose a real plan to brace us from this crisis, he just needs to state loudly and clearly, NOT this plan. People feel they are being ripped off and stolen from - and if he comes out and fights this fight, I think he will even win votes from some of the most unlikely of people). It is a moment he can articulate a true voice. It is THE moment.

So, my first thought is to call and put heavy pressure on the Obama campaign to lead the effort. Then, we should be showing up, IN PERSON, (get a group together) and demand from our Congressional Reps and Senators, a united mantra...

DON'T YOU DARE...We could call it the 'Don't You Dare' campaign.

I guess the best way to do this would be to start a internet petition so that when we show up we are armed with hopefully thousands of names of those who stand with us.

I am going to send this post over to moveon action committee, and give them a call to see what actions they are thinking of taking.

These would just be first steps. If they still don't listen, a mass protest in Washington must be called upon, and we would actually have to show up. I mean, really, show up. Pull your kids from school, tell your boss you can't show up for work, put off any vacation plans, whatever. And, carpool and drive to Washington. A few million of us. And, shut the place down.

Our country is so far out of control, so on the edge of a terrifying prepice, we can't just bitch on a blog. Frankly, I am scared. But, I will use my fear to move myself into action. Please join me.
