** I'M CONCERNED **
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 11:15 AM by President Decider
I'm concerned over the people that insist on starting threads expressing their concern.

Honest to Christ, will you people grow a pair and knock it the hell off already! Start showing some fucking confidence in our ticket and let's take this motherfucker to the house!

There is not ONE issue that McCain and Mrs. Mooseballs 1984 have on thier side .... NOT ONE!

The economic meltdown this week was a game changer and nobody in their right mind is going to vote for the old goat who is stumbling and flip-flopping like a drunken Alzheimers patient. More importantly, nobody is going to turn this country over to an ex-mayor of 8,000 people who got her political training wheels just over a year ago about the same time she got her passport.

Now quit the whining and let's OWN THIS!

Ka'pish?

2. Who you gonna trust?
Obama and his team, who beat the Clinton machine and maintain a respectable lead, who have turned a 'maverick war hero' into an unscrupulous liar in the public imagination, who developed the most robust non-lobbyist based fund-raising machine in the history of politics, who know the data like their back of their hands, and who are making plays for unimaginable states? And who, above all, seem to remain calm and steady regardless of the swirling panic around them?

Or the swirling, twirling panicking pack, who shrink from every attack, who freak out with every round of polls, who invent a thousand ways we will lose rather than providing a single way we can win, and who have - truly - never won an election in their goddamn lives, and probably never had the courage to even stand for one? A pack of know-nothing motherfuckers?

Sensible people know who to stick with in such situations.

8. Let's crash the DU Server...
On January 20th, every member of DU should post an "I'm Concerned" thread at precisely the time Obama is taking the oath.

Just for old time's sake...

10. Agreed. Can I add something to you rant?
I really wish that people would not start threads with intentionally misleading titles (no, yours is fine because it's unspecific), but I wish that DUers would NOT post subject lines intended solely to shock people, or trick them into opening them.

THere have been so many lately... where the headline is something very negative for Obama, but once you open it the original post is the opposite, but the person has tried to be clever or funny. Most people skim the subject lines, and we have A LOT of eyes here that are no particularly DUers, or DUers that are not particularly honest. When people do those subject lines, or they do the concern threads, they are just adding to an aura of concern or giving someone anecdotal talking points against us.

If Obama has 30k people come out to see him talk, then a bad subject line would be: "8,000 people at Obama's rally today..." only to click on the story (because DAMN that seems like a low number!) to find that only 21k got in, and the 8k were turned away. It may seem like a funny or clever way to make a joke or get people to read your threads, but it's not a fair way to post here.

Off my soapbox.

16. Well said. I agree progressivebydesign
Its like being well dressed. People do judge a book by its cover. First Impressions do count. I'm a DU er and I want to be proud of it. I don't want to be perceived as a whiney looser. Lord knows we've had little enough to feel good about in the last 8 years.
And now we are so close to the end. We can make it.
YES WE CAN!

11. Yep. "Yes, WE can" that means all of us. If you are concerned, make ten more calls!
Leaflet the homes in your 'hood, give some office supplies to your local HQ--then come back and whine (and I'll still ignore or mock it, but...).

Yes, WE can! All of us.

12. Yes
lets all put on our magical thinking caps and wish Obama into the White House.
Forget the polls or the closeness of the race in key States.
Forget the perception that voters have of McCain and Palin that run against the facts.
We know we are right and that will take the day.
It worked in 2002 in the run up to the Iraq War and it worked in 2004 for Kerry.
So don't be concerned, be steadfast. Ignore the reality out there. It's what Bush does.

14. Just be warned that when the board is ultra-busy "Hide Thread" is disabled.
That's when that handy-dandy "scroll" function can save your sanity!

15. I was so excited when I figured out how to hide a couple of threads
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 12:17 PM by peacetrain
that was back in the primary.. Not so much now, if I see the concern word,(exception this thread, it was obviously a humor or rant on concerns type with the ** around the title of the op) or something that amounts to it, I am not likely to click on the thread. :)

I have noticed though, if you get a lot of positive Obama movement , joy in the DU, there will all of the sudden appear a number of those types of threads.

Not putting on a tin foil hat or anything, just an observation, and they are usually by just a few people. Kind of helps keep things in perspective if you feel ~cough cough~ something is just not wired right..

18. If I could add one further point, from an SEO point of view...
..The title of a post, also is placed by the DU script that creates the pages, in the <title> and meta description portion of the HTML document, which the search engines use to rank a given page in the search engine results. So a descriptive thread title, also gives one a much better chance in being found via Google, etc. So a good title of a post should contain keywords they you might think the public would use in searching for a given topic via the search engines.

20. I agree, as long as "let's own this" means let's get out there and
do something. Put up signs. Register some voters. People are desperate for change, and many just need someone to hand them a ballot. Carry some with you. My wife is at the mall signing up voters right now.

We have every reason to be worried though if msm manages to keep the illusion going that it is a close race. they WILL steal it! they have too much to lose and will be charged with sooo many crimes. They WILL pull out all the stops and go to ANY length to stay in power!! You know this.

22. Amen to that!
Up until now the campaign has been the equivalent of the ridiculous pre-match professional wrestling interviews. Friday night is showtime. Every single time that people get to see Obama and McCain on the same stage at the same time the difference in quality will be evident. Only hard core republicans, hard core racists or moose eating morons will be unmoved by the realization that Obama is head and shoulders above McCain in intellect and ability. Unfortunately those groups account for about 40-45% of the population. This has all been nothing but preliminaries until now. The final push starts Friday and McCain/Palin will be ground into submission.
