Does everyone appreciate what a wonderful CAMPAIGNER this guy, Barack Obama, is?
Not only is Obama a great presidential CANDIDATE, but just as important he's a fantastic CAMPAIGNER. Most of us already know that Obama has the right ideals that will make him a fine president, but to actually make it happen you have to be more than just a competent candidate. As a presidential CAMPAIGNER, this guy is living up to all our expectations and then some. I love everything about him and his campaign so far.

I love how he talks, I love how he walks, I love his expressions, I love his campaign strategy, I love how he delivers his hard-hitting counter punches to McCain without hesitation, I love his little "ha ha" laugh he does when he's in the middle of a sentence where he's mocking McCain, I love how he takes the offense whenever he wants, I love how he's using Joe Biden, and last but not least I love how he's so fucking coooool...he's oozing with personality...he's got everything down to a science. When it comes to doing things "personable", he does it just right, never overdoing it either.

Barack's mannerisms and timing are near perfect, and this helps him pull it all off. The guy is simply a NATURAL...he is sooo likeable...and I plan on enjoying every minute of him. Folks, we have got a winner in more ways than one.

I think you can tell that I am just loving this campaign. :smoke:

2. I am old and have seen tons of candidates, but I never tire of watching Obama in action
he has surged ahead in spite of the odds stacked against him, with grace and determination. And really good moves when it counts. He learns from his campaigning mistakes, which is also key to his advancement.

Totally enjoyable, although sometimes when it gets hairy, my heart jumps up in my throat, hoping he will come through. Whether I agree with him on every strategy is irrelevant, because the overall result has been good.

52. And thanks to you for posting what you did - got me thinking about Obama
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 06:26 PM by DeschutesRiver
as not just candidate, or campaigner, but also as future President.

At times watching Obama has inspired me to take a second look at how I am handling something in my personal life, just from analyzing what adversity has tossed his way, and the means he's used to put it aside and behind him.

Given all that has been revealed this last week about where we are headed economy-wise and in very short order, I want someone running this show who has 1) enough intelligence to be wise, yet flexible 3) well developed empathy that drives his ability to make others realize life is about more than just themselvs and their wants/needs, and 3) a way of making me feel that there is hope during those hard times that are coming fast upon us, when even the smartest thinker just won't be able to fix everything that is going wrong; hope in the midst of situations that must be endured, until they can be eliminated.

I see all these abilities in this extraordinary young man. He has good character, and you can't buy that - he earned it along the not so easy road he's traveled to get here. Obama is a good guy to have in our corner as Americans right now. :)

3. The turning point for me honestly just came in the past few weeks...
...don't get me wrong, I've been pulling for Obama this entire time. But the deal sealer for me, the thing that told me that this guy was going the distance, was the "lipstick-gate" BS.

The day after, news came that Obama was going to discuss the "pig in lipstick" quote from the day before. The Republicans had jumped on it and had been pushing it hard in the news. I saw people online calling it Obama's "Howard Dean" moment. Part of me honestly seized with dread. He wasn't going to go out there and apologize and act the guilty party, was he? The Democratic candidates of the past would have caved on this, I am sure of it. A mumbling apology would ruin him!

But Obama came out swinging! He nailed McCain on it, called him out on his bullshit, and it was one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen! The Dems weren't going to BE the punching bags this time! They weren't going to "take the high ground" that cost us so dearly in the past! We were going to FIGHT! That was the moment for me. I'll never forget it for as long as I live.

And fight like hell at the same time. He is the exact leader for this moment in history that we need. People who have underestimated Obama find themselves sorry and surprised. Just ask the former pres and first lady, the Clintons are practically royalty within our party. Obama has got it going on and he showed how BRILLIANT of a pres he will be already by picking Biden they are a helluva team! I LOVE how they are coming back with ads constantly. People are giving like crazy to this campaign because it IS bottom up, our contributions are being used well.

62. Thank you for saying that. I'm tired of people acting like
the high road is something that can't be done. It's what's letting him win. Taking the high road does not mean not fighting. Far from it. He has every right to defend himself, and I don't consider that "going negative" as the media likes to pretend. He's still on the high road, and that's why he's kicking ass.

6. His natural communication skills are so reminiscent of the last elected
Democratic president. I can see how these guys might bump heads, but I really hope Big Dawg is gonna hit the Appalachias hard, on Obama's behalf. It was nothing less than amazing to watch Obama keep his cool while those around him were losing theirs. The polls weren't looking good, but he just kept on plugging, and let the talking heads & truth squadders burst the Palin bubble.

I think Gore and Kerry would have made great presidents, but they were definitely lacking in certain skills needed for the fight. Of course the Republicans playing dirty didn't help, but Obama is showing he can stand up to it thus far. He's the man!

But you may be too young. :)

I was in high school during the Kennedy administration. I've never seen a president so thoroughly emulated.

On edit: Reagan was a great front man, but an empty suit. Kennedy actually did the job. He made people want to be smart.

Yeah, but way back in March of 2006 when I was pining for Obama and I said..."I know there are some people here who aren't too pleased with Barack Obama, but I honestly can't see any other Democrat who has his ability in inspiring a large group of people. This guy is so intelligent, comes off as such a good person, is so charismatic, and is such an eloquent speaker that I think he's just what we need to restore the honor and dignity to the United States that Bush has taken away. I would love this guy as my president because he's everything that Bush isn't. What a shame "it's too early" for him. Or is it?"....you responded by telling me, "Give it up....this ain't fairy tale land!"

34. What's so great is that he campaigns well and like a statesman.
There's been comments about this before but in our new 24/7 digital online media world, politicians (whom already had petty tendencies) were discouraged of altruism and reduced to the grasping no substance image-only cardboard cutouts that we see today. Obama is seriously the future of what our politics require--someone who is old school in a good way and resets the low tactics to zero and brings us to new heights and is able to defend those American values that have been left undefended and nearly tattered after 12 years of Republican rule.

As Nathan Hale said, "Give me liberty or give me death!"

I can't get enough of watching and listening to Obama and Biden and I really hope that I get to see them both in person before election day. These two men and their families are exactly what we in the USA need, as well as what the world needs (right now). I absolutely love them all!

I made a quick Obama/Biden photo SLIDE so I can see them anytime. I selected Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" as background music (Yes it will, and I can hardly wait!).

Mind you, I found Kerry to be an engaging, genuinely nice person, and I always found myself mystified when I'd some say otherwise.

But there's no question that Obama has found a way to connect with a very broad group of Americans, and while I take nothing for granted, I think the choice will become quite clear to a lot of mushy-middle fence-sitters in the next couple of weeks, particularly after the first debate. Obama is cool and calm and exactly what we need when facing serious crises; McCain just ain't.

59. In addition to your excellent points, I love that he has run a drama-free campaign
No in-fighting, no he-said, she-said, no damaging leaks, no shakeups or even the need for them.

Whenever anyone asks me whether Obama is "ready to lead," I remind them that leadership is more than yelling "I'm a LEADER!" to anyone within earshot. It's about inspiring people to follow your example, work collaboratively and to do and be their best. It's about working toward a goal with grace, innovation and competence. It's about achieving results.

And look at the results: Obama has run a nearly flawless, financially responsible, cohesive and unimaginably successful $300+ million operation. He's done it without in-fighting, damaging leaks, scandal or shakeups that are the norm in just about any campaign. And he's done it all without breaking a sweat.

You gotta love him . . .

60. Your post brings up something very important that I noticed about Obama a long time ago
I noticed that he's is one of the most CAREFUL people around. This guy makes few mistakes and that is so important. He's always thinking ahead and is incredibly meticulous about his choices.

With Barack Obama, I have the same wonderful feeling of pride, that I had with John F Kennedy.
It's been a long time......
