DU'S chance: Predict now whether the debates will have an earthquake game changing moment
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 05:14 PM by RMP2008
Ala Kennedy v Nixon 1960, Carter V Ford 1976 when Ford said that there was no domination of Eastern Europe by the USSR, 1980's are you better off than you were 4 years ago and there you go again Reagan moments, 1992's watch checking by Shrub's dad, 2000's sighing by VP Gore.

Here's a USA today article on historical debates:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-09-20-debate-history_N.htm

So, what do you think? Go on the record. Will the 2008 debate series provide a race-changing epic moment for all history or not do much to change the race?

I'm getting so excited. Just 5 days to go! I'll bump this on 10/16, the day after the third to see if the comments turned out to be right.

1. I doubt it. Game changing moments aren't planned, and sometimes
not even recognized right away.

9. Wishful thinking
His handlers will have stage-managed him to within an inch of his life. It'd be nice, though.

3. Probably minimal impact. Both McCain and Obama will be careful not make any big mistakes.
It will be a draw which means Obama wins.

5. I am Not Convinced There Will be a Major Moment
although it is very possible.

I do think it is very likely that McCain will have a succession of small misstatements, display bad judgment, or show that he is out of touch in a number of ways. Obama might also be successful in painting the flip-flop label on McCain -- it shouldn't be hard to do.

6. Yeah I agree
It's not often that debates have that epic moment and it'd be unwise to expect it this time. Hopefully we do get it though:) Totally agree that a steady as she goes debate performance by Senator Obama is enouugh for us to maintain our lead.

7. I think we've had 'em.
When Obama was nominated, or when Obama and Clinton were the last left standing in the Democratic field.

McCain's nomination was another, sealing the GOP's doom. His pick of Palin was another.

The Wall Street crash and the exposure of Millions of Americans to some of the consequences of neocon economic theory was another.

If they don't have bin Laden on ice, there will be no more surprises until Election Day, when we learn how wrong the polls have been.

8. Looking for more one liner jabs at John with a smile on his face
Obama has had some great ones this past week that has caused several small cuts to McCain/Bush/Sarah that have got to add up to some stinging sensations for John.

11. Not if the economy crashes.
Same difference though if they play their cards right.
