About the 60 Minutes/McCain/dog tag thing... |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 09:46 PM by renie408
Don't we think that is going to blow up in his face big time? That is a pretty shallow thing to do. Seems to me that it is such an obvious ploy that people are going to see right through it. It might play to older people who grew up watching John Wayne war movies, but I cannot imagine it not repulsing a lot of people. Even Republicans.
It looks to me like McCain is playing so hard to his base, he is forgetting that they aren't enough to get him elected. I thought Palin was supposed to have sewn up the base. Shouldn't McCain be doing more to appeal to less crazy people?

1. The "dog tag ploy" was so tacky and low class that it was vulgar. |
|
Further, his comment "This is what being President is all about" was close to being a nonsense statement. It was a clumsy attempt to play on people's sense of patriotism.

McCain: Just landed at the airport a couple hours ago. Woman was there. She handed me this envelope. Says, "My son, Staff Sergeant Patrick Lee Leibert, KIA, 21, June 2006, Afghanistan. Quote, please remember and support our troops in Afghanistan. God bless you. Cheryl Patrick
Pelley: KIA, killed in action.
McCain: Inside of it, of course, is the dog tag with Patrick's picture on it. That's what being President of the United States is all about.

6. Oh great. The woman lost her son and all McLame can think is "This story could get me elected." |
|
What a bastard. The note sounds like she's begging McLame not to forget the troops are fucking human beings!

3. I guess we should be thankful he didn't whip |
|
out a flag from 9/11 too! They will stoop to any level to win a vote. I wonder how the mother feels about having her "personal" note read on national TV and using her son in this manner.
