60 Minutes McCain Gaffe - "Longest you've lived any one place? Hanoi." What happened to AZ?
Edited on Sun Sep-21-08 10:50 PM by Median Democrat
It is amazing how easy it is for McCain to interject his history as a POW into any question. For example, in response to a question regarding the longest he's lived in once place:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/09/21/60minutes/main4463340_page6.shtml

/snip

Pelley: You were born in the Panama Canal Zone because your father was stationed there. Where'd you live as a kid?

McCain: Well, we lived in San Diego, we lived in Norfolk, Virginia. We lived in the Washington D.C. area. We lived in New London, Connecticut. My dad was a submariner.

Pelley: Longest you've lived any one place?

McCain: Hanoi. Hanoi was the longest- I lived any place, five and a half years.

/snip

Seriously? What about Arizona? Heck, given his 26 years in Congress, I bet that McCain has spent even more time in Washington DC.

1. When you have seven (or is it ten?) houses, you probably like to circulate around

and not just stay in one of them all the time.

Oh wait.

Fucking A--Obama can't call him on this, but Jon Stewart, Letterman, and Leno better.

seems odd to me...
I tried the google, but didn't find answer.

16. True, But Does HIs Campaign Want To Say He Is So Loaded . . .
And that he has so many houses throughout the Country, that he never has stayed in any place more than 6 years. You would think that he would have accumulated more than 6 years in the State of Arizona alone.

10. He might finally start overplaying his hand with fence-sitters
It's already a joke in anti-McCain blogosphere circles that he's playing the POW card every chance he gets, but he may induce POW fatigue across a broader segment of voters if he keeps dropping the reminder at every opportunity.

He's going to wear it thin and he runs the risk of making more people stop and think and wonder how his POW status will enable him to get our economy out of the toilet. Bad for him when they realize it doesn't have anything to do with solving our problems.

I can't stand him and his POW stories....it's making me want to say awful and hateful and spiteful things about him. But, I have to remember that every time one gets angry, plaque builds up in the arteries so I shouldn't let him draw me closer to a stroke or a heart attack, BUT HE'S MAKING ME SO MAD!!!!!

You saw how his team spun, "fundamentals of the economy are strong"

You saw how his team spun, his problem with understanding or knowing who Zapatero was.

 The man has been laughable since he had 10 people in all his primary run with a weird green background. I figured Palin was enough to confirm his comedic side. He turned this election and the entire election process into one large Eddie Murphy skit.

23. I think he can stop milking his POW status - everyone knows about it by now
He reminds me of Bob Dornan, who used to be a Representative from California and who seemingly worked into ever single speech by him that I ever heard that he was a military veteran. "Hi, nice weather we're having, and I was a veteran."

30. Originally I thought the question was in relation to his childhood
but then McCain's captivity occurred in his 30's....so maybe the answer was the longest place he'd lived during the first half of his life - eg 36 years and under. But then again I dunno whathachrist...

42. Exactly - I Was Wondering Where The Heck Hanoi Came From...
Because even if you limit the question to his childhood, McCain was not a POW until his 30s. While it is possible that he is so old that he considers 30 years olds to be kids, my take is that he just forgot to update this talking point since he first ran for congress in Arizona nearly 30 years ago.

.... and this is sort of related but did McCain "rely on his faith" when he was cheating on his wife like he did when times were hard? Was he praying for "one more minute" then?

Hypocracy is NOT cute "my friend."

32. This has gone way too far. Seriously, POW as a response to any and everything
He used a poor soldier's death today and if anyone confronts him, I know his response will be that he was a POW.

What can we do? He has crossed the line and he can't seem to get over his POW days. This is some scary sh!t!
