KEATING 5: Remind me, Why Not Use This Against McCain?
The Keating 5 indicent bares some similarity to me to the current financial crisis -- corruption, greed, and bailing out by the tax payers. The extra plus is McCain was in the middle of it, though acquitted. The McCain Campaign has used little to no connections with corrupt individuals to paint Obama as untrustworthy and out of touch.

Why not throw back the Keating 5 scandal to keep the press busy for the rest of the week and McCain on the defensive while he prepares for the debate? I really do want to know why the Obama campaign is avoiding using this information.

Thanks for any ideas.

1. Tread delicately.... 4 of the 5 were Democrats......

We have to be careful about how this is framed.

But yes... it CAN be used.

2. Because the concern trolls think it will backfire on Big O for one reason.
4 other Democrats were snagged by the scandal. None of them are running for President, and I don't think too many of them are still holding office. I could be wrong on that.

5. 527's where are you?
The 4 dems are gone only McCain still stands and continues to allow access to lobyists.

527 has to piece together the rebuttal ad I hope they use some of this stuff.

McCain=Keating5 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJ2eayWR3dU

Gramm=Enron=Dregulation=Country of Whiners

McCains Campaign Manager=35k mos for 5 yeasr to help Freddy & Fanny duck regulators

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJThPjvscFs

Lets see $200 Billion For McCains Keating5's S&L mess. $700 Billion for McCains deregulation of Wall Street mess.

Then we add $596 trillion in derivatives debt (Thank You, Sen Gramm), over $2.5 trillion in credit card debt, and $58 trillion in credit default swaps

Good Job Sen McCain

7. The topic needs to be handled by a 527 to keep Obama from being dragged into the mud with Miss Piggy
... and Grandpa Simpson. Obama/Biden need to focus on the issues and hit McCain on his ties to scumbag lobbyists within his own
campaign circle. Think of it as a pincer action.

8. Because there are better ways to go after McCain?
McCain has said repeatedly that his involvement in the Keating 5 is what led him to reform his ways and go after abuse. As such, any use of Keating would give him a springboard to repeat this to the public especially in light of new attacks and imo it would give him the upper hand because most of the public (myself included) are open to second chances when people admit mistakes and at least talk the talk about how it changed them. Plus, as I say in my subject, there are a litany of better avenues to take when attacking McCain (like being for his own immigration overhaul before he was against it, his house gaffe, firing Chris Cox, et al). I don't even think it's wise to have 527s bring it up. To me it gives McCain the ability to run an ad similar to Obama's "why is McCain talking about the 60s" ad.

My opinion only, and I'm probably wrong :) Also, I do not consider myself a "concern troll".

9. Just say deregulation and everyone knows about Keating 5 unless you are 18-29.
At 32 I even remember Keating 5. And yes, there were Dems involved as well. It doesn't need to be said directly. Hinting at it works just fine.
