Why are we surprised that NC is close? It *IS* winnable... |
|
John Edwards won in NC. That shows me there is a LOT of economic populists there. And those people will vote for Obama.
Also... NC's demographics have changed in recent years. Lots of northerners relocating there (similar to Virginia), especially in the Research Triangle.
Also... a sizeable minority population, that will likely have a huge jump in turnout.
NC is seriously *IN PLAY* and we should make a play for it.... even if we can't pull it off, forcing McCain to spend time and money there can help in other areas.

1. I think Obama won the NC primary. Wasn't Edward out by that point? |
|
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/07/us/politics/06cnd-campaign.html?hpI liked Edward's populism, to bad he lied to all of us. That said I think the Democratic Party has a great chance at winning NC, and deliver a death blow to the GOP.

2. I think OP means that Edwards won a Senate seat there back in the day. |

4. I mean that John Edwards won the senate race there in 1998..... a statewide race |
|
If John Edwards can win there in 1998, than ANY populist can win there in the current economic environment.

3. I think if we are going to flip one southern state, it will be that one. |
|
I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

5. We're surprised because NC is pretty reliably red--so to have it in play |
|
gives us yet another avenue to victory.

7. But look at how their demographics have changed in recent years... |

NC is trending blue.... trending HARD toward blue.

9. Well, we expected Virginia to be up for grabs this year, due to Tim Kaine |
|
and Mark Warner's popularity--as well as Obama's crushing primary win.
But I have to admit I didn't see NC flipping blue or even trending blue. Maybe this is a bellwether for SC as well...?
