Local right-wing rag published my LTTE on Palin today

I watched the GOP convention with low expectations and wasn't disappointed. Sarah Palin, a political parvenu, and previously a news reader, did a passable job mouthing the script written by the character assassination squad for which Republicans are so famous — the usual pastiche of vicious attacks and half-truths.

I was appalled, however, by her mocking assault on community organizers, the millions of people who try to stitch the holes in the public safety net that arise from the GOP's rush to bankrupt local governments and give more tax breaks to the rich.

I've been a community organizer, while Ms. Palin was still bouncing around five colleges, trying to get one of them to give her a degree. The work I, and hundreds of others, did has enriched the lives of tens of thousands of people. I'm quite proud of it.

Palin's only accomplishment apparently was to take Wasilla, Alaska, from being solvent to being $20 million in debt. Her few months as governor are somewhat sordid and pending investigation.

Despite her snarling tone and contempt for the truth, she claims to be a Christian. Someone needs to remind her that Jesus Christ was a community organizer and Pontius Pilate was a governor.
