Campaign materials and hopefulness
A co-worker of mine related today that shortly after she got her 82 year old grandmother up on the internet and set up with email, she called her frantically saying "Barack Obama EMAILED ME!" My co-worker tried to calm her down, explaining that he didn't actually email her personally. Her grandmother pointed out that it even said "Dear Maxine..." So she had to explain that, too. Her grandmother still maintains Obama personally emailed her, how could it have happened any other way?

So we had a little chuckle over that. Oh those oldies and the net, right?

But a big envelope came for me today from Joe Biden. It said 2008 Commemorative Photo Enclosed and I thought now what is this? I'm pretty jaded by campaign stuff, I get deluged by it.

Inside, sure enough, an 8 x 10 color glossy awesome photo of Obama and Biden and it said "_______, Thank you for your remarkable commitment to the Democratic Party."

I'll admit it, I grinned. I thought it was cool. My daughter read it over my shoulder and I said, "I agree. I DO have a remarkable commitment to the Democratic Party. And it's cool that Biden and Obama know it!"

Daughter (teenager) rolled her eyes and said "Mom, they send those out to everyone on the list."

I said "And the list is called 'People Who Have a Remarkable Commitment to the Democratic Party.'"

Just for a moment, in spite of what I know, I understood my co-worker's grandmother and how special she felt.

1. You mean that Barack didn't really personally email
me either??? What about Joe? Not even Michelle? Surely Michelle had time to fire off an email to me...

How "remarkable" is your contribution??? (Just wondering if I have a present in my mailbox, too.) :bounce:

3. Considering the economy and the state of my checking account
not very remarkable at all, if that's what you're talking about.

But I prefer to think they were talking about the remarkable commitment I have in my heart. They SAW it. And sent me the cool awesome photo that, on Inauguration Day, I will have framed and hanging on my wall, like some old Irishman with JFK.

2. P.S.
Even though I know better, it is still cool to see email from "Joe Biden" in my Inbox. :bounce:

4. Aww...
how sweet. "And the list is called 'People Who Have a Remarkable Commitment to the Democratic Party."

Thanks for sharing this. I have to admit that I kind of felt the same way when I got that photo with the message on the bottom. I actually felt kind of guilty because my "remarkable commitment" isn't remarkable at all, if it's measured in time devoted or money given to the campaign. But I like how you describe another way to interpret "remarkable" below. :)

6. Ha!
I did consider that. Then I was too embarrassed to do it. It's stuck to the front of my fridge with magnets, though!

7. If (when!) he wins, get it framed.
Stick it in your home office or something. Mine's on my fridge, too!

8. Thank You! Smiling Here : )
What a super-nice post! I was on the phone talking to my son and I had to read it to him. Love that our elders are using the computers and email and I love their "innocence" with the newfangled contraptions :)

Off to check to see if Barack or Michelle sent me anything today! I really must let Joe and Jill know where they can reach me...
