Do senate races ever have coattails for Presidential candidates? I ask because |
|
MI, IA, VA, NM, NH and CO have Dem senatorial candidates that currently look to have solid wins, and these are all in swing states where Obama could as much help as possible. MN, OR and NC have close senate races. The rest of the contests aren't in any of the usual swings states.
How much will this help Obama, if at all?

1. The six solid Senate states you cite look good for Obama so that may be a factor |
|
The Senate campaigns probably had good voter outreach efforts in place that are bound to help Obama.

2. Latest poll in NC Kay Hagan is leading Liddy Dole --which will help Obama. |
|
People here are fed up with 8 years of Bush Republican rule in Washington, and Dole is in big trouble.
Obama has a legitimate chance of winning NC as McCain continues to pour $$ into his organization here. That is $$ which won't be spent elsewhere.

5. Look at Collins and Snowe |
|
They seem to do pretty well in a blue state. Voters are definitely more partisan in presidential elections though.

4. Carl Levin is a shoe-in here |
|
His name on the ballot really doesn't help bring out more voters, because they all expect him to win handily anyway. Obama will be the one to bring out all the voters this time out.

7. Mark Warner of Virginia... |

Has long coattails. Virginia loves Warner, even many republicans.
