A Dismayed George Will: "It Is ArguableThat McCain Is NOT Suited To The Presidency.
McCain Loses His Head
By George F. Will
Tuesday, September 23, 2008; Page A21

http://www.washingtonpost.com/...

Channeling his inner Queen of Hearts, John McCain furiously, and apparently without even looking around at facts, said Chris Cox, chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, should be decapitated. This childish reflex provoked the Wall Street Journal to editorialize that "McCain untethered" -- disconnected from knowledge and principle -- had made a "false and deeply unfair" attack on Cox that was "unpresidential"

In any case, McCain's smear -- that Cox "betrayed the public's trust" -- is a harbinger of a McCain presidency. For McCain, politics is always operatic, pitting people who agree with him against those who are "corrupt" or "betray the public's trust," two categories that seem to be exhaustive -- there are no other people.

Conservatives who insist that electing McCain is crucial usually start, and increasingly end, by saying he would make excellent judicial selections. But the more one sees of his impulsive, intensely personal reactions to people and events, the less confidence one has that he would select judges by calm reflection and clear principles, having neither patience nor aptitude for either.

It is arguable that, because of his inexperience, Obama is not ready for the presidency. It is arguable that McCain, because of his boiling moralism and bottomless reservoir of certitudes, is not suited to the presidency. Unreadiness can be corrected, although perhaps at great cost, by experience. Can a dismaying temperament be fixed? "

6. That was a classic "off with his head" move by McCain.
He's a hot head who thinks firing people shows you're tough.

He has really lost it now and the freepers are out in force on Digg posting fake videos about Obama being in the chicgo style politics or some such nonsense.

They must really be freaked out. I am having loads of fun telling them that they are desperately trying to distract from the real issues because all they have are smears. I write things such as:

Good luck with that, your candidate is a loose canon who brought on a dangerous pick who just last week threatened two countries with war. If you continue to assist your candidate with lies and smears and vote for him, and he manages to get elected, you will be responsible for world war III, the draft, the Great Depression II, and America's complete loss of moral authority. Russia is in the waters right now, aligning themselves with their new allies against America. Thank you John McDangerous and Sarah Not Ready Ever.

8. Chris Cox Is This Year's Ken Lay and Richard Egger - Avoids Issue Of Regulation
Cox may be doing a horrible job, but as with the Enron and Worldcom scandals, the real problem is lax financial regulations, and the GOP's lax attitude toward enforcement due to their commitment to deregulation. Cox is just the latest fall guy to avoid the real need to impose and enforce effective finacial regulations.

16. George Will has never liked John McCain.
AFAIK.

I mean this is good for us, but it is not like it signals some huge break in the Republican party.

19. It is arguable, considering the recklessness of 'puke fiscal and tax policies since 1981, that
neither the Gipper, nor GHWB, nor junior were suited to the presidency. If fact if the worst-president-ever tag were applied based on the total destruction wrought upon our country, its institutions, and its people, the winners would be imv, by a landslide: (1) junior, (2) the Gipper, and (3) GHWB, i.e., 'puke governance is the joy that forever keeps on giving. :P

20. Sunday, in This Week, he said a few choice things, too. Sunday, he used "channeled his inner
William Jennings Bryan." He also said that McCain had shown his true colors "and scared some of us." That got Cokie Roberts and Sam Donaldson going, too. I did the happy dance. The transcript is probably online.

21. George Will answered his own question. McCain's people must be apoplectic
Even THEY aren't that stupid.

It's like the price of the luxury yacht. If you have to ask the price, you can't afford it.

If George Will is asking "Can a dismaying temperament be fixed?" then he already knows the answer.
