Upon reflection: I've been overreacting to Bill Clinton |
|
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 05:59 AM by cali
I got my hopes up after his great speech at the Convention. I realy thought he'd be a valuable campaigner for Obama, that he'd go out there with his enormous charm and political skill and rally voters- particularly the so-called "Bubba" voters to Obama. That hasn't happened and it may well not happen. He's offering tepid praise for Obama and more full throated praise for Palin and McCain. That's a shame, but it's not going to lose us the election. This is Obama's election to win, and he will.
Bill is Bill; brilliant man, brilliant politician but endlessly wrapped up in himself and his legacy. If he does manage to campaign enthusiastically for Barack, great, if not, well, that's just the way it is.

Bill Clinton has become a major disappointment for me. I voted for the man TWICE and now, I don't even know him.
He's the epitome of a bitter old "triangulating" politician. Don't be fooled, he's the corporatist he's always been - but now it's not popular to be "corporations first" kind of politician.

3. I'm not fooled. If you had actually read my OP, you'd not have made |
|
such a comment. I simply realize that Bill is who he is and the situation is what it is.

6. Yes, I read your comment. Bill Clinton NOW must value his role as the spouse of a US Senator |
|
as much, if not more than a former President.
Bill's admittedly high IQ does not speak to his major flaw of character, his ego. He's not only an embarrassment to the democratic party, but to the Country as a whole. If Bill had "the emotional intelligence" to humble himself, I too would sing his praises.
Instead his bitterness and vindictive nature that was once "well hidden" is worn like a badge of honor.
I'm embarrassed for Senator Clinton, the democratic party and OUR Country as a whole. :(

...consoling McCain supporters, telling them he understands why they might support him, but that Obama is the better choice and it's ok to vote for Obama for the good of the country.
He will not earn votes for Democrats by trashing the opposition.

5. Reasoned criticism is not trashing. |
|
I wish people understood that. In any case, Clinton won't win or lose this election for us. That's up to Obama- and us.

It would look horrible for the Dems if he ran around the country trashing McCain. He is making a level headed statesmanlike decision in trying to get more independent minded voters to come over to Obama. He is a former President and it is rather taboo to run around criticizing others in politics. He also said, on more than one occasion, that Obama is going to win this thing. But I do not hear the Clinton haters talking about that. It is the job of Obama and his supporters to trash the opposition. It is also the job of Hillary Clinton to promote Obama and that is what she has been doing.

11. How about talking up Obama then? He sure as hell has NOT done |
|
that. And one more time: Reasoned criticism of the Repuke ticket and their policy proposals is NOT the same thing as "trashing". Oh and if it's so taboo for former presidents to "run around criticizing other is politics", why did he do so much Obama trashing, Richardson trashing and trashing of other dems in the primary? I'd love to see your response to that one.

16. that's not a challenge. And for the record, |
|
the DLC has made its goals and beliefs clear. There are certainly other philosophies within the dem party. That said, although I don't care for the DLC philosophy, I don't see them as the boogyman either.

14. Like him or hate him...... |
|
....his numbers still make him the best U.S. president we have had in many, many years. We need someone like that on our team, and we are fortunate to have him.
Being president is about surrounding yourself with competent people to advise you, and he has a knack for that. Obviously, Bush was a total failure at that!

15. History will NOT judge Bill Clinton so kindly. He helped in the deregulation craze. |

But fortunately for him, the economy stayed strong.
His "tringulating" does not speak well to his TRUE devotion the the Average Wage Slave American.
Bill Clinton is highly intelligent, but IMO, he has not ever had the BEST INTEREST of the Middle Class in mind throughout his Presidency. As a continuing DLC Democrat, Bill Clinton is "good for big business." Nothing more, nothing less.

21. Everyone has an opinion |
|
I base my statements on the facts. With the exception of the foreign trade deficit, his numbers outshine all others, and even the trade deficit wasn't that bad during his administration. If one looks from the "overall" aspect, he has to be one of the top leaders we have ever had. No president is perfect, and he did most of his with a republican congress that impeached him because he got a BJ in the whitehouse. Damn, if a president of the most powerful nation in the world can't get a BJ on the job, who can?
It's my hope that Obama can wind up in the same league as Clinton, as far as success is concerned. He offers us hope and change, and if he can deliver on a Clintonian scale, he will be one of the best, as well!
