Shoot me now.... I'm in 100% agreement with Newt Gingrich and William Kristol on something

"Congress has an obligation to protect the taxpayer.

Congress has an obligation to limit the executive branch to the rule of law.

Congress has an obligation to perform oversight.

Congress was designed by the Founding Fathers to move slowly, precisely to avoid the sudden panic of a one-week solution that becomes a 20-year mess."

--Newt Gingrich, Sept 22, 2008

"I’m doubtful that the only thing standing between us and a financial panic is for Congress to sign this week, on behalf of the American taxpayer, a $700 billion check over to the Treasury."

"is the administration’s proposal the right way to do this? It would enable the Treasury, without Congressionally approved guidelines as to pricing or procedure, to purchase hundreds of billions of dollars of financial assets, and hire private firms to manage and sell them, presumably at their discretion There are no provisions for — or even promises of — disclosure, accountability or transparency. Surely Congress can at least ask some hard questions about such an open-ended commitment."

--William Kristol, Sept 22, 2008

1. What the hell?
Will someone please reboot the Kristol so he returns to being 100% wrong? He has been a reliable indicator of what not to do, and I'd hate for us to lose such a valuable tool.

2. he sure didn't believe that when he rammed through impeachment with a 2 1/2 hr limit on debate...
did he?

Now he wants to sound like a grown up statesman.

Gingrich carrying the fascists' water throughout the deregulating 90s was a big cause of this mess.

11. I'd say his ONLY reason is that he sees the writing of history on the wall...and his role in it
in the deregulation ....now he's trying to establish a different storyline for himself.

4. You edited out all the times Gingrich said "Frankly" in that quote, didn't you?
Oh, wait.

He only says "Frankly" when he's lying.

I read a poll that only 47% of Americans blamed Republicans for this financial mess and 24% thought Democrats were to blame. That 24% should be ashamed of themselves (if they have shame) for being so incredibly stupid (and likely ignorant of reality). Unbelievable that it's still our fault. These people had absolute power and now everything is in the toilet... but somehow it's our fault.

I hate these people.

6. The one thing that unites Dems and Repugs
Money. And image. Nobody in either party wants to be the bad guy who takes money away from the middle class. They KNOW that "we the people" don't forget things like that! And if you're a repug who's been talking about "not raising taxes" (no matter how false the claim), this bailout "plan" just don't jibe.

9. also, reading more of the articles
it's easy to find things I completely disagree with them on, such as the allegedly high corporate tax rates.

15. You know why Kristol and Gingrich are suddenly FOR the Constitution?
They both woke up and smelled the catfood.

They know this bailout issue can sink the Republicans everywhere. Not just in House and Senate races, but the McCain/Palin campaign, too. And the last thing they want to see is an Obama administration having unchecked powers of the purse and calling the shots to Wall Street.
