McCain's Scary Friends
You know, it's so tiring reading of Ayers, Wright I thought I'd gather up a few articles of McCain's pals for anyone interested. If I've missed any, please feel free to add.

McCain's Scary Friends

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

John McCain's Terrorist Friend: G. Gordon Liddy

......In 1998, Liddy's home was the site of a McCain fundraiser. Over the years, he has made at least four contributions totaling $5,000 to the senator's campaigns--including $1,000 this year.
Last November, McCain went on his radio show. Liddy greeted him as "an old friend," and McCain sounded like one. "I'm proud of you, I'm proud of your family," he gushed. "It's always a pleasure for me to come on your program, Gordon, and congratulations on your continued success and adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great."

Also, his role in Watergate:

Liddy was convicted for his role in the Watergate break-in, for conspiracy in the Daniel Ellsberg case and for contempt of court, spending about four and a half years in prison. In 1986, a federal appeals court found Liddy liable for $20,499 in back taxes on Watergate slush-fund money, rejecting his claim that his benefits did not exceed $45,000. As one of the White House "plumbers," Liddy spent about $300,000 engineering political dirty tricks and the Watergate break-in. Liddy lives in Fort Washington, Md.

McCain's Contra Friends:

"Another NGO compiled a year's worth of Contra atrocities, which included murder, rape, torture, maiming children, cutting off arms, cutting out tongues, gouging out eyes, castration, bayoneting pregnant women in the stomach, and amputating genitals."

Congress cut off all funding after these were made public. McCain donated privately even after that. Now, who support terrorism? Or is it not terrorism if it happens outside the U.S???

''Historians will look back and view the vote that cut off military and humanitarian aid to the contras as a low point in United States history.'' - Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona.

McCain Backer's Firm Pleaded Guilty To Funding Terrorist Group In Colombia

"Carl H. Lindner Jr., the billionaire Cincinnati businessman, was CEO of Chiquita Brands International from 1984 to 2001, and remained on the company's board of directors until May 2002. Beginning under his tenure, Chiquita executives paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia (known by the Spanish acronym AUC), which is described by George Washington University's National Security Archive as an "illegal right-wing anti-guerrilla group tied to many of the country's most notorious civilian massacres."

"In 1992, the two worked closely as senators to defeat Hillary Clinton’s 1993 health care plan, and in 1996 McCain was national chairman of Gramm’s unsuccessful presidential run.

In 2002, as the full extent of the Enron scandal was emerging, The New York Times called Gramm “a demon for deregulation” as one of the chief engineers of the stealthy approval of a bill that exempted energy commodity trading from government regulation and public disclosure. (Link disabled.)"

One of Chalabi's closest American associates was none other than Randy Scheunemann, the man who would eventually become the top foreign policy advisor to McCain 2008. Yes, the same Randy Scheunemann who lobbied John McCain on behalf of the Republican of Georgia while he was working on the McCain campaign. Yes, the same Randy Scheunemann who went into business with now-disgraced lobbyist and international influence peddler Stephen Payne.

As a top aide to Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, Scheunemann wrote the Iraq Liberation Act of 1998, which gave the Iraqi National Congress $98 million and committed the US to overthrowing the government of Iraq.

Scheunemann founded and lead the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, which was itself a spin off of the Project for a New American Century. John McCain and Joe Lieberman were honorary CLI co-chairs. CLI lobbied aggressively for the invasion of Iraq.

So let's look at (more of) McCain's dirty ties:

Hidden Agenda: John McCain's Dirty Little Secret

Press Release: Council on Hemispheric Affairs

Furthermore, during the years that the presumptive candidate chaired the IRI, the organization has chosen ironic means to "advance freedom:" training corrupt opposition leaders and providing funds to groups that effectively undermine often democratically-elected officials that the US government views unfavorably. In addition to running training camps, the IRI also conducts polls in high-stakes elections; the organization has been known to conduct "secret polls" with the intention of skewing public opinion in order to yield a desired outcome. The problem with such secret polls is that they cannot be verified and often contradict the findings of other, similar studies.

Betts is among a string of donors who have benefited from McCain-engineered land swaps. In 1994, the senator helped a lobbyist for land developer Del Webb Corp. pursue an exchange in the Las Vegas area, according to the Center for Public Integrity. McCain sponsored two bills, in 1991 and 1994, sought by donor Donald R. Diamond that yielded the developer thousands of acres in trade for national parkland.

In the late 1990s, McCain promoted a deal in Arizona's Tonto National Forest involving property part-owned by Great American Life Insurance, a company run by billionaire Carl H. Lindner Jr., a prolific contributor to national political parties and presidential candidates.

Religious Advisor and Spiritual Guide:

http://newcentrist.wordpress.com/200...ble-as-obamas/

As we noted last week, ever since courting John Hagee and receiving his endorsement in February, John McCain hasn’t been quite sure how to handle the controversy that came with it, at times trying to distance himself from Hagee and then turning around and bragging about his close ties with him.

Keating asked the five Senators to tell the feds to bug off, and the five Senators, later known as the Keating Five, obliged, meeting with federal investigators twice and pressuring them to stop investigating Keating’s crimes. They bought Keating some time, but the feds didn’t give up and eventually Keating was nailed. The reason the feds were so persistent was because Keating wasn’t playing with mere chump change. Keating blew $3.4 billion through illegal personal loans and bad investments, and the FDIC eventually had to reimburse Keating’s customers who had been ripped off. (The FDIC is a part of the federal government funded by taxpayers dollars, so when Keating stole from his customers you and I were the ones who paid for it.)
