Why does Palin lie when she doesn't have to?
This is what I find the most disturbing:

Sometimes some people lie when they feel under siege and that
the only thing do to is to lie.

Example: Did you have sex with that woman?
Answer: No, I did not have sex with that woman.

or

Example: Did you just go through that stop sign?
Answer: No officer, I really did stop at that stop sign.

But here we have a woman who lies about bullshit. Why would she lie about
having discussed with her daughters about whether she should accept the VP
nomination?

And why would she lie about things that are so easily verifiable, such
as her having supported the bridge in Ketchikan?

There is something seriously not right about her way of being in the world. It is almost as if lying
is preferable to telling the truth even when lying would have more serious consequences.

2. W would lie if asked what time it is.
...and if someone else had a watch, they'd be branded unpatriotic.

She's just emulating W and Cheney.

3. I know someone just like her ...

... in the lying department that is. She lies about the silliest shit -- constantly -- and I've never completely understood it. It has something to do with her childhood and overbearing authority figures.

4. Because she's arrogant!
She doesn't feel that ANYONE should be allowed to "question" her; therefore, what she says (whether truth or lie) should be taken as lock, stock and barrel.

There was an Alaska politician on Rachel last night who echoed basically the same thing. I didn't get the woman's name as I joined the program in progress. (The name may have been "Green" and if anyone else saw it and can fill in the blank, I'd appreciate it).

Anyway, this woman basically said that disagreement with Palin was viewed as treason and that Palin took disagreements very personally.

DSM-IV does not have a classification for sociopaths, but it does have this: Antisocial Personality Disorder:

1. Failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest;
2. Deceitfulness, as indicated by repeatedly lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure;
3. Impulsivity or failure to plan ahead;
4. Irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults;
5. Reckless disregard for safety of self or others;
6. Consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations;
7. Lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another.

7. I used to work with a woman like that. She would lie with great facility -
I don't think she knew or cared much about the veracity of what she said.

She, too, was very materialistic and overly absorbed with her appearance and was, also, very vindictive and manipulative.

You would NEVER want to get on her bad side as she had a memory like an elephant and would be out to "get you" as soon as the opportunity presented itself.

Her kids were all messed up, too, -very dysfunctional family but with a "mom" like her - how could it be otherwise?

9. Refuge in audacity. If they lie about one thing, then you can say,
"Hey, they lied about that," and the media will call them on it because one lie is a good story.

If they lie about everything, then you can try saying "They lie about literally everything," and all that will happen is that you'll look hyperbolic and unhinged to a casual observer.

12. As strange as it sounds,
These people actually believe that telling the truth, even about something trivial, is a sign of weakness.

This is what we're up against!

My dad always said she'd sooner climb a flagpole to tell a lie, then stand on the ground and tell the truth.

Pathological liar.
