The National Association of Police Organizations announced their endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama on Monday, citing vice presidential candidate Sen. Joe Biden's work during his tenure to help law enforcement agencies across the country.
In a joint phone conference, Biden and Tom Nee, president of NAPO, discussed the importance of increasing assistance from the federal government to local law enforcement agencies.
Nee said Biden's work to increase funding for agencies while in the Senate fueled the decision to endorse the ticket.
"You've been a great advocate for the law enforcement community," Nee said.
Biden said the decision of the last administration to stop funding the Crime Bill has hurt local agencies that are stretched thin.
Nee said the endorsement also came after comparing their platform to that of Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin. Nee said the Republicans have said local crime is a local problem and not a situation for the federal government to intervene.
