Anchorage Daily News slamming Palin in two front page articles
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 07:20 PM by Tallison
Now, this is what negative buzz is made of, and while Joe Q. Public may not read, he is sensitive to 'buzz.'

Article one: "Palin Meets Kazari; Reporters Restricted." "Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, who has not held a press conference in nearly four weeks of campaigning, today barred most pool reporters from her meeting with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, the first foreign head of state she has ever met."

Article two: The notorious AP copy, "Palin says she'll cooperate with Personnel Board probe": "Less than a week after balking at the Legislature's investigation into her alleged abuse of power, Gov. Sarah Palin on Monday indicated she will cooperate with a separate probe run by people she can fire."

http://www.adn.com/

And it didn't take Time Magazine long to catch on to the souring local coverage with its own exposition of her miscalculations:

1. I check ADN daily
Another good one is this blog: http://mudflats.wordpress.com/

Palin is toast. and I believe she won't be mayor or governor of anything much after Nov 5th.

4. I'm really impressed
and will regularly check it from here out. How revealing that a candidate's home base newspaper, especially in such a rogue state as Alaska, questions her integrity. She's making some serious miscalculations, and I hope the press stays on this her the starved mongrels they are.

15. Despite her high approval ratings as GOV
I wonder if AK will turn on her as they, better than anyone, know she isn't fit for the job of (V)POTUS.

25. Ivan Moore had poll results yesterday
showing that Sarah's approval rating has fallen from 82% to 68% since the convention, but he's still asking the wrong question. I'm waiting for someone to ask Alaskans how they feel about Sarah as a vice presidential candidate. I think a lot of people who may still like her as governor think she's a terrible choice for such a high national office. I think we'll have a clearer picture after this coming Saturday's "Hold Palin Accountable" rally, which promises to be quite an event drawing protesters from all across the political spectrum here. I will be posting photos. :)

24. Add ProgressiveAlaska to your list
Phil Munger has known Sarah Palin for years, as well as most of Alaska's other political players. He's a little brutal sometimes, but with good reason. http://www.progressivealaska.blogspot.com/

2. new memes for Palin: corrupt, incompetent, cowardly (for hiding)
one merely needs to start using those adjectives in association with her name. There is a large element of truth and saying it makes it so. works for the republicans with pure lies, so with truth it oughta work even better :-)

How can she be VP or Pres when she will not even face a bunch of American media?

8. Read the comments on Palin-related articles and 'recall' is something that comes up often.
She took a huge risk running; either she was completely naive about national politics or she thought her corrupt Party would be able to shield her from disaster.

14. I loved this section of the Time's article..
"As the Anchorage Daily News wrote in a blistering op—ed over the weekend: "Is it too much to ask that Alaska's governor speak for herself, directly to Alaskans, about her actions as Alaska's governor?" One longtime observer — a Palin fan who says she's done "brilliant" things in the state — worried aloud to me over coffee in downtown Anchorage that allowing the McCain campaign to antagonize both parties in the legislature on her behalf could even lead to her eventual impeachment, if her bid to become Vice President fails and she returns to the state with a little less political luster."

9. My favorite article excerpt:
From the Personnel Board article -

Separately, two Alaska Democrats said they may bring witness tampering allegations against the McCain-Palin campaign. The two state lawmakers, Rep. Les Gara and Sen. Bill Wielechowski, said they are evaluating Alaska's criminal code to see if it applies in what's become known as the Troopergate probe.

Bwaahaahaa!

11. Caribou Barbie is turning out to be a total wimp!
She can't even deal with the press, but she wants to be leader of the free world? She is an absolute EMBARASSMENT to women! They even had the debate rules changed for her because the more she talks, the harder to deny that she is completely UNQUALIFIED to be Vice President. Hell, she may not even be qualified to be Mayor of Wasilla!

12. Make that THREE ADN Front page Articles ....??....

Not sure if this is the same, but it startes out with

"Of the two Alaska investigations into abuse-of-power allegations against Sarah Palin, the governor has chosen to cooperate with just one: the one that guarantees secrecy can last for years and which she could conceivably dismiss."

13. Oh I like that!
"..her miscalculations"..

"For many Alaskans, all this maneuvering is a bit too clever. Palin's jockeying doesn't just clash with her previous image as a good-government reformer. It strikes some here almost as a matter of state sovereignty. There was grumbling when the McCain campaign brought in a high-powered cheechako (that's an outsider), former federal terrorism prosecutor Ed O'Callaghan, to dictate the governor's strategy and deal with the media. Spokeswoman Stapleton says O'Callaghan is in Alaska because she and Van Flein need the extra help, and that the media have made this a national issue, so bringing in advisers from outside of Alaska is only appropriate. But the campaign's public bashing of Monegan, a widely respected, longtime public official in the state, didn't help its case." Now that O'Callaghan's hardball tactics are becoming clearer, the complaints have grown louder, from all sides of the political spectrum."

I hope she picked the wrong man to pick on.

Maybe that's the dynamic at work. What a referendum on the woman from next door.

27. It's not only Monegan that they're bashing
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 11:58 PM by Blue_In_AK
but Hollis French and Steve Branchflower as well, two very well-respected public servants. While some may accuse Hollis of politicizing this (although he hasn't), Branchflower seems to be completely impartial. He was a district attorney here for years and years going back to the mid-'70s, and has recently been involved significantly with victims' rights. For more on this read Shannyn Moore's excellent "Palin Truth Squad: Burning Bridges in Alaska." http://progressivealaska.blogspot.com/2008/09/saradise-lost-chapter-sixty-six-palin.html

23. The Anchorage Daily News
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 11:59 PM by Blue_In_AK
does a pretty good job, all things considered. They don't deal lightly with Ted Stevens or Don Young either. (Young calls it the "Daily Worker.")

Also interesting when reading the Daily News is checking the comments after the news stories and also the political blog. It kind of gives you an insight into how Alaskans are feeling about all of this -- although I've noticed a huge influx of posters from other states in the past few weeks.
