I don't mind a new feature if it doesn't cost me an old feature.

This change is a real different deal, it's qualitative and subjective, it's not simple and it might have consequences that I'm not seeing yet.

There's 80 pixels of semi-useless space pushing the left text margin out, which makes scanning/skimming the thread titles feel like reading text on an iPhone (on a 640x480 it would be 1/8th of horizontal real estate just to communicate a color). I think the simplest design solution is color-coding threads sorta like "labels" in MacOS, since the color itself is information and the 80px mini-banner might as well say "Blue!"
