MoDo, who predicted a convention meltdown, calls Bill Clinton a "fan of Palin"
Edited on Tue Sep-23-08 11:51 PM by bluecatz
If you follow Maureen Dowd you must remember that piece in which she fantasized about Hillary Clinton, Bill Clinton and John McCain plotting against Obama. A few days later, the Democratic convention went on without problems, on the contrary, having Hillary Clinton as one of its most successful speakers.

After blowing that one, Maureen Dowd is now cropping Bill Clinton's words in order to make it appear as if he's pushing for the McCain-Palin ticket. Here's the excerpt she cherry-picked from Clinton's recent interview:

“I come from Arkansas. I get why she is hot out there,” he said authoritatively, adding: “People look at her, and they say, ‘All those kids. Something that happens in everybody’s family. I’m glad she loves her daughter and she’s not ashamed of her. Glad that girl’s going around with her boyfriend. Glad they’re going to get married.’ ” He said voters would think: “I like that little Down syndrome kid. One of them lives down the street. They’re wonderful. ... And I like the idea that this guy does those long-distance races. Stayed in the race for 500 miles with a broken arm. My kind of guy.”

But this is the part she left out:

“I get this,” Clinton said. “My view is ... why say, ever, anything bad about a person? Why don’t we like them and celebrate them and be happy for her elevation to the ticket? And just say that she was a good choice for him and we disagree with them?”

But admitting that Clinton disagrees with Palin on the issues would have stripped Dowd of the excuse to write this misleading piece against her nemesis.

3. saw Bill on the Daily Show tonight and he did fairly good
with endorsing Obama. And that was with John trying to trip him up a bit, at least it seemed that way. There was a guy in the audience that told Jon about the Letterman show the night before and Chris Rock's take on Bill's interveiw there. Anyway, what ever the reason, Bill said that Obama would do what was best for the people and said it was not enough for people to love him, they had to get people to see that he loves them and wants what is best for them. I already see that and don't know why others don't, but then I can't force my opinion on others and will not even try. And heavon helps the soul who tries to force theirs on me. ;)

4. On Letterman he said that john made "a very smart move"
in picking palen. The way he said it, he implied that john made a purely political choice. He also said palen was a very smart politician.

No one wants to be called a politician, or be accused of making politically expedient choices. Especially politicians.

It was subtle, but it was defiantly a dig.

5. I did not catch him on Letterman.
A lot of what people take from an interview is their interpretation of it. I am glad that you have the opinion that it was a dig and hope others took it that way also.

6. I did not take it as a dig
I took it as praise. My republican sister took it as praise too. I think the rationale that it is a dig gives too much credit to most of the country personally. If it is nuance it was over my head and I am pretty well informed.
