A post-debate plan for Friday night |
|
Don't let them spin it.
Al Gore clobbered the chimp on issues in 2000, but the discussion turned into a bunch of b.s. on body language.
Obama will do well and hold his own,I'm sure, but they'll seize on the most trivial thing and try to frame the post-debate commentary on that.
So I urge everyone here to kick off the debates with a push of support.
The second they're over, write a letter to the editor summarizing Obama's best bits and cite Mccain's inevitable gaffes (or a guest column, if the paper allows) , call C-Span and get on the air, call talk radio; if your local TV station or paper does a poll - vote and get friends to join in. I'll be compiling links of all the polls I find that night and posting as soon as possible.
Things to think about: Be ready to talk the surge. The first debate is foriegn policy and, no doubt, McCain is going to try to paint himself as the architect of "victory" in Iraq. Another topic will probably be willingness to meet worth so-called rogue state leaders. Other possibilities: America's standing in the world, Iran.
Since the debate is on Friday, the real spin will start on the Sunday shows (On the plus side, no rightwing radio for three days, so they'll have a harder time monopolizing the discussion). Send these Sunday programs an E-mail, or better yet call the networks' comment lines. E-mail the panelists, the producers, etc.
The rightwing spin machine will be out in full force Friday night and we're going to have to hit the media hard to make our case known.

1. Gore got wrecked by SNL |
|
"Lockbox" and "I'd like to answer Governor Bush's question as if it were my own" brutalized Gore's image. Obama isn't so easily mocked, fortunately.
