While Driving into DC Yesterday I Started to Tear Up |
|
I used to live in Baltimore (which is about 45 minutes from DC). My wife and I would frequent the DC area for dining, drinking, touring, etc. It is a great historical town obviously filled with things to do.
There was always a fascinating and emotional feeling when you were driving into DC and you could see the Washington Monument and Capital Building in between trees and other buildings. Yesterday I was driving into DC for some business and was coming up 1st Street which dead ends into the Capital Building. As I was staring at the colossal beautiful white dome it hit me how fucked up everything in this country is right now. I was listening to WTOP news radio about what was taking place with Sec. Paulson, Fed Chief Bernake and Congress right inside that building.
I don't usually tear up (Lady and the Tramp always gets me though) but I did. How could we be so damn screwed up? How could the people we vote into power abuse it so easily and so relentlessly? I feel so sad for Lady Liberty and our "homeland."

2. How could the elected people do that? Because they are people |
|
Elected people make mistakes, don't watch things they should, act on wrong impulses, want power, get greedy, lie, cheat, steal and serve the needs of others who get greedy, lie, cheat, and steal so long as it satisfies the personal need of the elected person to hold a vestige of power.
People are people. Laws and regulations are useful in society because people need protection and redress from the things people do. When a generation of politicians decides its members CAN'T make the mistakes made in previous generations and get rid of those protections things end up in the Crapper.
This same phenomenon is playing out in every sector of American society, because every sector has been touched by the governing class who have thought for too long that they were above the rules of just plain folk.
