My report: "Boots on the Ground" in New Hampshire last weekend!
I joined about 20 members of the CT Brigade, organized by Planned Parenthood of CT and in partnership with Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, to hit Manchester, New Hampshire last weekend. Our goal: to spread the word about John McCain's horrible record on women's reproductive health issues, in personal house to house canvassing and phone banking, to unaffiliated women voters, ages 18 to 55.

We learned in our training session Saturday morning that New Hampshire is the most prochoice state in the country. It also has an odd affection for John McCain whom voters got to know during his 2000 campaign. This year there is some splitting of support among voters: favoring former governor Jeanne Shaheen for U.S. Senate AND John McCain for President!

We know from past experience that when women voters who lean to McCain are informed about his miserable voting record on women's reproductive health and rights, they start turning on him. Our goal was to let as many unaffiliated women as possible to know about McCain's record!

No one can speak to women better than Planned Parenthood. One in 4 women in this country walks into a PP health center at least once in their lifetime. I was pleased that no one was snarky, and in many cases they were smiling and receptive, to our being from Planned Parenthood.

IF YOU ARE IN A NEARBY STATE, PLEASE CONSIDER DOING THIS!

Here are the results of our visit, as contained in a thank you card I received from PPNNE:

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HARD WORK THIS WEEKEND!
We did great work and couldn't have done it without you!
We knocked on almost 350 doors, made nearly 500 calls, and overall reached close to 200 people - not to mention all the materials left on people's doorsteps!
Your work is making a significant difference in this historic election. Women voters need to hear from Planned Parenthood on the importance of voting as well as the importance of electing leaders who will protect access to reproductive healthcare services - and your work this weekend did just that!

Please pm me if you want to participate from CT and have questions or contact PPNNE's office at 603-225-2925.

New Hampshire is a swing state that we must win. It is much too close for comfort at this point! You can make a difference there if you can get there!

2. Good Job
Planned Parenthood is a long established and respected organization and has run some good policy ads against McCain. I'd like to see them run some more. But "boots on the ground" always proves the most effective.
