Biden plans Cincinnati speech on foreign policy
9/24/2008, 12:22 a.m. EDT
By DAN SEWELL
The Associated Press

CINCINNATI (AP) — Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden's latest Ohio appearance is to include a foreign policy speech at a site associated with speeches on the Iraq war.

Wednesday's event is at the Cincinnati Museum Center, two days before the first general election presidential debate which will focus on foreign policy. Democrats hope Biden's longtime role as a Senate Foreign Relations Committee leader will help offset Republican criticism of presidential nominee Barack Obama's foreign policy experience.

President Bush came to the center's Union Terminal in 2002 to lay out his case for attacking Iraq, and his Democratic opponent John Kerry criticized the war in a 2004 speech at the center.

2. And I hope the m$m covers it so people get the opportunity to hear it.
Good morning, Old Crusoe. I can't wait until early November, but this whole year has been fascinating.

:hi:

7. Good morning, babylonsister.
I hope there's coverage also.

The blogs will grab a link to it and make sure it gets around to the faithful. Cincinnati's media is pretty conservative. WLW Radio more or less owns the radio dial.

On the other hand I hope people in SW Ohio will be more generous to the Democrats than they have been in recent elections. There's a concentration of extremely bad Congress critters from those districts, too -- Mean Jean Schmidt, John Boehner, Steve Chabot -- my god.

There's some serious work to be done and Biden's choosing Cincinnati media market for this address is a real good idea.

My fingers are crossed!

3. It'll be a humdinger, but the media narrative is "Biden is a mistake who doesn't matter"
As you say above, it's an open question how they'll cover it. I do like how Obama is putting Joe out there as the leader that he is on FP; a team player who is comfortable with his own skills, our guy.

4. I don't understand how they can dismiss Biden like that, especially
if you compare him to Palin. Seems like a no-brainer to me that he's vastly more qualified than she is.

6. Palin tells lies, and it's politics as usual. Biden tells the truth, and it's a huge gaffe.
And all the media want to talk about is whether Obama regrets not choosing Hillary.

10. He has many talked about the economy almost every day so far.
With the debate coming up about foreign policy its time to start attacking the myth that McLiar is the experienced candidate on this. He has been so wrong on everything regarding Iraq. An article that came out the other day pointed out that Iraq is ironically moving towards a government that looks an awful lot like the plan Bidn proposed way back. Who cares about the MSM? Biden's unfavorbility ratings are so much better then Phalin's are, he connects with blue collar voters in the midwest on the economic issues and he has the foreign policy experience to go after McLiar. He needs to just keep attacking as independents are moving to our side.

"With the debate coming up about foreign policy its time to start attacking the myth that McLiar is the experienced candidate on this."

The economy was the #1 issue in Ohio and the country well before the financial meltdown. Biden will barely get a 15 second soundbite out of an Iraq speech, given of all place, in Ohio.

Obama similarly came to Michigan several times to attack McCain, talk about the Hurricanes, etc. etc. and largely avoided speaking about the economy. Didn't do much to help him here.

12. Yes but McCain needs to be attacked on both in my opinion.
Obama is currently leading on the economy in all the polls. If he catches up to McLiar in the foreign policy questions then he will be even more ahead in the polls.

13. The situation is VERY fluid, to say the least. If Obama acquiesces to a bailout, things may change.
The real reason Biden won't speak out on the economy is the campaign is likely still determining its position, imo.
