I signed Barack's Petition; " Bail Out Only w/t Strings Attached"
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 12:38 PM by FrenchieCat
I discussed the Wall Street bust and the Bail-Out with my husband in the wee hours of the morning. He is a financial consultant and in the Real Estate business. I shared with him my theory that this whole Wall Street panic was a well timed scam to empty our pockets, give the Republicans (who have renamed themselves "conservatives" and "GOP") a way of separating themselves from Bush and Co. and run as "reformers" by refusing to vote for the Bail out Bill, no matter what it ends up including.
See my thoughts on this here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x7160865

My hubby responded by saying that this is not a "scam" in the sense that what is happening on Wall Street was not planned, and that it is very real. That the shit is just simply hitting the fan, and this is the last thing that Republicans wanted to see happen at this time. He said a melt down is not good for the world, but also for Republicans no matter what, because they are seen as the ones who were pushing the ideology and having control over regulating the banking industry. In otherwords, he felt that this was the best of worlds for Democrats, politically speaking.

He went on to say that as long as those Obama points make it into the final bill, the Democrats win this if they then vote for the Bail out.....because voters want solutions that make sense, not just a congress and leadership that is simply against "everything", and offer no solution.....even though Voters are mad as hell. He felt that Republicans could only come ahead in this, if the plan stays as is, and the GOP votes against it, and Dems for it.

When we talked again this morning, he mentioned to me Bush contemplating a prime time speech, that Bush is trying to undo what Warren Buffett was able to do single handedly; stabilize the markets.

He said that what Buffett was able to do with his 5 Billion investment yesterday was to buy time for congress to make the changes required prior to a vote. With a relatively stable market, there is no "panic", which could put pressure on congress to do the wrong thing; quickly pass a bill without the safeguards in place; without a way of taxpayers recouping on our investment. Bush is going to go on television and attempt to re-insert panic and a sense of urgency into the market; something he is good at.

I did sign Barack's petition that I had received in yesterday's mail. Something I was initially hesitant to do.

The message that I attached to committing to Barack's bail out demands follow:

I am a self employed accountant. If the small businesses that I service do badly in the economy, so will I. I pay over $1,000 for health insurance per month, and I have a mortgage and two children in college. I understand that we are being forced to do what we must to help Wall street, as it affects us all, but I also want to insure that Main Street is helped as well in the process. If we can get a return on our taxpayer investment, which is key, this could work, even if not by choice. Certainly we need oversight on every thing. If we don't get what Barack Obama is demanding be part of the deal, then there should be NO Deal. Period.

Oh....and I found it hella of hilarious to see McCain with his table of advisors so obviously late to the game. Again he copied Obama's approach in his desperate attempts to be seen as Presidential. However, McCain is not only copying Obama, but he is an imposter. He is a fake populist, and PR ploy doesn't change the fact that Obama has been leading on this, while McCain has been running around like a chicken with his head cut off. He is an opportunist, and definitely not Presidential material.
