Obama's response to suspending camapaign should be:
The wheel of Democracy does not stop spinning. NO war, no financial crisis, nothing has ever stopped elections from moving forward. And in order for them to move forward, there must be a robust and public debate on the critical issues we are facing. This is no time to hide in backrooms, this is time for every American to see us in their living rooms.

3. We had elections during the Civil War, Great Depression, and World War II. GOP is looking for any
excuse to short-circuit democracy, just as they did after 9/11.

Our contribution to solving this problem will be telling the American people what we would do about it as president.

Now you get your sorry, old, albino ass on that stage and debate me like a man.

Jesus Christ, were you this big a crybaby with the North Vietnamese?

4. Abraham Lincoln faced the voters in the middle of a Civil War.
I think the nation was in more danger then than it is now.

5. YES, i was thinking along the same lines.
You can't call a "time out" when you get the 3 AM phone call!

Further Obama could say "Sure if McCain needs to postpone the debate we'll humor him "(smirk)" but I am NOT suspending my campaign"

6. I'd suggest "turning" rather than "spinning," personally
What with the negative connotation spin has in politics, but the sentiment is dead-on.
