Obama first contacted John and to discuss this matter. 8:30am call
Edited on Wed Sep-24-08 03:05 PM by NYC_SKP
EDIT:
Who made the first move?

msnbc reports that Obama called McCain at 8:30 am to discuss suspending the campaigns to work on the economy.

Good for them!
-------------

But he'd better do it like right now, if he is going to agree.

Nobody knows how this really started, maybe it was Obama's idea first and John ran with it.

Either way, if it's going to be delayed I'd like to see Obama's campaign step up and grab some credit....

6. MSNBC (Norah) has repeated several times that Obama made
the first phone call this morning about the joint statement. So hopefully the truth will get out there.

22. Just the joint statement though, nothing about suspending the campaign
or the debate. Mccain tried to upstage Obama, nothing more.

3. well, IF Obama agrees with it....what a mess.
I don't know, he either has to fight the idea of the debate being postponed and play into the distraction, or do something strategically clever if not.

Should he show up alone?

Go into a rant calling John McCain a coward.

Say nothing?

13. Yes, but McCain got on TV first, making it look like he was leading it. Media made it
work for him.

10. Obama needs to show up in Washington and at the debates.
Show people that McCain could do both if he were a capable leader but he chose not to.

15. Let's follow John around with a camera during the scheduled debate hours.
IF the debates don't happen,

Let's see if congress is in session on Friday night and if he's working on anything other than a nap.

Fuck.

opportunity while in conference with Obama to come out with this stunner, that's the way it looks.

26. Here's the bit about their having discussed suspending campaigns:
QUESTION: Then he mentioned this meeting in Washington.

OBAMA: Right.

QUESTION: Did he also say to you that he was not going to participate in the debate?

OBAMA: Well, he -- you know, he mentioned that he was intending, potentially -- he was going to fly to Washington, and that he thought that perhaps we should suspend the debates.

I thought this was something that was -- that he was mulling over. Apparently, this was something that, you know, he was more decisive about in his own mind.

But, you know, as I said before, I think that one of the things that we need to determine is how can we be most helpful. I have spoken to congressional leaders every day this week. I have spoken to Secretary Paulson every day this week.

:hi:
