In perhaps the most glaring sign of the tug-of-war between gigs, McCain has voted less than Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., since Kennedy's surgery for a brain tumor in June.

The senior senator from Massachusetts surprised many when he returned a month later for a Medicare vote. By doing so, he eclipsed McCain, who hasn't tallied a vote since April 8.
